The ESPN article posted by OrangeEyes indicates the new football playoff will be worth at least $500,000,000. Not surpising. In a book by Dan Wetzel and others, it is calculated that by clinging to what they have, and making sure nobody else (non-BCS) schools got a piece, the auto-BCS conferences were leaving hundreds of millions of dollars on the table.
Just think how lucrative the NCAA hoops tourney is. College football can't do the same? BcS!
