1) This is an extremely young team
2) This is a team missing several key players due to injury.
3) This is a team that does not have enough depth and experience to cover for those injuries.
4) The team played poorly today. It happens sometimes.
5) Everyone that says they are an SU fan and are calling for Marrone to be fired over this loss is either a) completely drunk off their ass after a 4 1/2 hour game or b) struggles to beat WVU fans on IQ tests.

I agree with all of it..but our play calling is very poor and not very multiple...

Every team has issues. This game is on the coaches.

No excuses - wasted way too many opportunities. Young or not we left 20+ points on the field today.

We're not young at all on offense.
True, to a point. We have a young, weak Center that gets blown up on every play. We also have no depth/experience behind Bailey. Lack of depth and options on offense really hurts us.

The players missing were on defense. The d was great. Unless you think not having the back up tailback ended our season. Every team has injuries and I bet there are a lot of good teams that are younger then us.

Meh. We had the ball inside the 5 and threw to a guy who's never caught a ball.

Then we have it inside the 5 again, 3rd and short, and we hand to the slow RB who rarely plays.

You listed a lot of relevant things. But none of them are why we lost today, well besides #4.

I'm usually right with ya in the reality check... but no ing way on this one. Forget everything else, the ESPN All Access, the media blackout, the injuries. We had that game by 30, and the players were not the ones who blew it.

Mac was an issue today he was dominated on many plays and is the primary reason we cant get a yard when we need to. Nassib forced more balls today than he has all year. Look horrible and missed a wide open chew. Hacket kept throwing the ball into the heart of Rutgers D with quick slants that Shiano was waiting on. All in all the worst O performance since Grob. Absolutely horrible. Last point can we f the special teams by committe bull hire a coach that knows what the heck they are doing as we look worse than last year and that is hard to do. Horrible O

I don't agree we are not "young" on offense. But to be honest what I see is overall talent is just not as good. You put Rutgers talent on our team and we beat them EASILY. Unfortunately our talent just isn't there yet. I think PTG's absence was huge, he is really needed.

I agree, Mac was in issue today and has really struggled against good defensive tackles. At this point he is not a starting caliber center in major college football. That said, Nassib has to protect the ball better than he did today. The screen pass INT is a ball that should not have been thrown. Live for another down especially after a turnover with great field position. FG/Extra point Blocking was terrible. The tackle and tight end on the right side that play did very poorly allowing penetration on multiple attempts. Poor play selection in a lot of situations today, very few adjustments, poor decision making = a loss. Defense played out of its mind and almost won this game single handed. No excuses on offense though

Enough with the excuses. We had everybody playing except for Jones (and Ball is a very good 2nd team guy), Gulley (second team RB), and Sharmarko (one of our best defenders). Every team we play has at least that many guys out with injuries.
The defense played great -- even without Jones and S. Thomas. We aren't really that young except at LB -- and our young LBs (Davis and Lynch) were playing great despite being young. It came down to not being able to run it, or not trying to run it, or mistakes. Rutgers made its share of mistakes as well.
Surprised at the end the coaches showed confidence in the kicking game (dubious) and not in the ability to pick up 4th and less than 1 yard.

Offense is the issue people have. And considering Marrone is allegedly "offensive-minded," there ya go.

1. Offense isn't young
2. There haven't been many injuries at all on offense

No, the players blew it. In the end, what happens on the field is what's most important. However, they weren't exactly placed in a position to succeed today. Particularly on offense and specials.

Sorry. Not buying it. Here is the list:

15 YD PF Penalty on 3rd and at least 15
15 YD PI Penalty on 3rd and 15
Missed XP
Missed FG
Blocked FG
Dropped INT for pick 6

3 mistakes in the kicking game (that would have won the game) are not related to your items above. The UNIT failed. And failed miserably.

The only thing that you state that is relevant to the outcome of this game is #4. The offense and Specials played about as badly as I've seen during Marrone's tenure. Even so, Rutgers was practically giving the offense the opportunity to score. To be given the ball inside the opponent's thirty three times and come away with nothing...that's just inexcusable.

Injuries or lack of depth did not affect us today. The injuries have been heavily slanted towards the D side of the ball and they played AMAZING. Injuries and lack of depth had no effect on missing an XP, 2 FG's, throwing an INT in the endzone on a play that should never have been a pass, or Ant coughing the ball up twice on runs when he was away from the line of scrimmage.

#5 is characteristic of people being highly reactive after a loss that should never have been a loss. As annoying as some of them are they have every right to be upset after this game. I still think the people calling for Marrone's head are morons but everyone else who is being sensible has a right to gripe if they so choose.

This is a young team, and we've been lucky so far, at least until today. That's why today was so critical. This team is not very good right now, but had been winning. We really need to win the winnable ones if we want another bowl this year. This was a HUGE game to give away. We don't have the margin for error with this team. We will rue this loss at the end of the year, and not just for recruiting.

We didn't LOSE the game for any of those reasons. We lost cause our head coach and assistants made TERRIBLE decisions. SU played poorly and STILL should have won going away!!

Mackey was solid today. Least of our problems and has been the last 2 weeks.
