Really Cool Article on Marvin Harrison

Went out on top - after shooting (allegedly) and killing a guy.

Very cool article on Marvin Harrison - take off the Orange glasses and many things point to him being a scumbag when you do not downplay the legal "stuff" like being involved with a murder. As cool as Tommy Kane.

I guess if OJ is a HOFer, Marvin should be considered too.

Have you ever wondered what happened to former Indianapolis Colt and Super Bowl winner Marvin Harrison?

In 2008, a year before his retirement, a strange thing happened to the Philadelphia native on his way to ending his NFL Hall of Fame career. He found himself involved in a shooting incident, not once but twice. The second time Harrison’s name came up in a shooting it involved the death of the victim of the previous shooting. The same victim involved in the first shooting. According to reports this much we know:

The source said the alleged victim (a known local drug dealer), came into the bar, Playmakers, (a bar which Marvin Harrison owns), about 5 p.m. and engaged in an argument with Harrison. The victim then left the bar, heading to his car, with Harrison following. Gunfire broke out and the victim was hit in the hand. The victim’s car was riddled with bullets. Marvin Harrison denied any involvement in the shooting but admitted getting into a fight with the victim.

A source told the Philadelphia Daily News that a 2-year-old boy suffered a cut under his eye from glass that shattered when an errant bullet hit a car windshield, according to police. Originally it was reported that a young girl had been injured. When police came to the scene, no one would identify the shooter. Yet the police found at least 6 shell casings on the ground near Harrison’s garage that matched the bullets recovered from the shooting victims vehicle.

A year or so later, the victim did an interview with ESPN:60 where he openly identified Marvin Harrison as the shooter. A few weeks later, the victim was gunned down in front of a North Philly take out joint. As he lay dying, his final statement to police when they asked him who did the shooting was, “ Y'all already know, the same thing from before, it was Marvin Harrison”.

Go ahead and attack me - but not everyone who wears Orange is a good person, that's life. And to defend them when it seems logical that they were involved in some very bad stuff because they wore the jersey of the team that you root for is ridiculous.

No one should attack you. Harrison also has never really showed syracuse any love either.

Not saying he did or didn't do it, but am I wrong to believe that you're innocent until proven guilty?

Always thought Marvin was a decent enough guy. I also have always viewed this episode as Marvin not letting drug dealing scum dominate his place of business. If he is indeed involved in this. Way to keep things drug free.

i see what virginia orange is saying. however, and im not trying to justify any of the parties actions, but i always struggled to classify that alleged drug dealer as a victim.

Where do all Marvin's legal problems stand? If it was that straight forward wouldn't he be in jail already? I am just curious, I don't really think either way on Harrison. If I remember the guy was a well known drug dealer and thug that was killed. Maybe Harrison is too? I don't know

Safely stowed in a room at Harrison's Philadelphia home are some 130 footballs from his 190-game career with the Colts that serve as a timeline for his Hall of Fame candidacy. He has his first NFL touchdown catch from Manning — Sept. 6, 1998 against Miami —and the last, Dec. 7, 2008 against Cincinnati.

At some point, the balls will be ripped apart and made into a sofa.

That's funny right there.

In court, yes. In public opinion, not always. Think OJ and Nicole Simpson/Ron Goldman.

I never embraced Harrison because of his non-relationship with SU (and the gun business didn't help), but he sure says the right things in that interview, and not just in the form of generic athlete quotes.

It's refreshing to see anyone talk about the quest for perfection in those terms. That's why we watch sports - to see excellence. In terms of on-field activity, there's no doubt that Harrison personified excellence. After reading his words about his approach to the game, it's easy to see why.

It's terrifying how few murders get solved.

There's no way for any of us to know whether or not Marvin was involved in those incidents. He was never charged with anything, and the guy who was gunned down and who identified Marvin as the shooter was, shall we say, less than reputable.

As for his lack of involvement with SU - I'm not gonna hold that against him. Does it suck that he isn't more involved? Sure it does. But how many successful SU alums who are lawyers, doctors, bankers, hedge fund guys, CEO's, etc. (that are probably worth far more money than Marvin) are also not involved in their alma maters? It happens. People have different experiences and choose to allocate their time and money to a number of different things. I see it all the time. Not gonna get overly bent out of shape about it.

Whole thing just seems odd. I just don't know how anyone can deal in absolutes in a situation like this, like said I could care less really

Guess you know more than the police now too. Tommy Kane was found guilty in a court of law. Marvin Harrison wasn't even charged. But yeah it's not irresponsible or anything to compare the two.

Oh believe me, I will.
reminds me of a "run in" that I had with Kane when I saw him back here in Syracuse. Saw him out one day and being the sycophantic SU fan I am thought I'd thank him for his great career here, memories, etc. Made mention of the only pro part of his career I recall in the CFL and it was down hill from there that I guess I had the gall to forget his NFL time. He then said some inappropriate things to my girlfriend (now wife) and it was game on me in his face ready to go. Figured at 6'2" 240 I'd get the better of this one but luckily (for me in retrospect) his friends pulled him back and all dispersed without incident. He offed his wife a not too long after this. Never in my life have I felt a sense of cold dread like that when I heard that. Never know who we're dealing with. So glad my bar days are LONG over...

Not much good ever comes from hanging out in bars... I hate them at this point in my life especially after 10 pm. Just not worth it.

i bet the police think he killed a guy too

I've read the GQ article before (heck I even posted it here a couple weeks ago). If the case was as strong against him as the picture painted by GQ, then why were no charges ever brought. Not sure if they could have gotten a conviction based off what they supposedly had, but if all that is in that story is true, then surely they would have had enough to bring charges against him, no?

hard to find witnesses who'll talk because witnesses don't want to end up dead. it's why there are so few convictions. people do get away with murder, harrison is one of them
