Really don't understand all the whining

Win a game with a 5th string qb versus a decent football team. Yes a decent football team. Defense on the field the entire 2nd half sure played poorly but was asked to win game for most part. Not the first time a shafer/ bullough got lit up a bit

Time out was right call considering how disorganized they were and people complaining about pressers? Wow, just goes to show that some have an anti shafer agenda at this point and want to bang that drum whenever possible.

Get the win and move on, lucky to get it and nobody and I mean nobody has ever accused me of being a cotton candy and pony ride type guy when reviewing the sufootball ride, I am usually more critical than most but this shite is ridiculous.

I was ticked off at our defense giving up 80+ yard drives yesterday. Thank goodness on Thompson made some plays in the 4th quarter. Our D has been shredded by Wake for half a game and by CMU pretty much the whole game. We only forced 1 punt in the 2nd half.

I really don't even care about the TO as we should have stopped them anyway. The fact was our D got lit up by the weakest team left on our schedule. Now BC probably has a weaker offense than CMU but overall BC has a better team. Our D gives up a lot of 3rd and longs which is crazy.

Well said. A win is a win. Rush is a decent QB and we were down to playing the officer (who is our backup now based on who they chose to try and win the game with).

Oline did not step up when they had to. Lbs and secondary have pass coverage issues which is not incredibly surprising given the youth. They should/need to get better as the season goes on. We have 3 wins and neeed to get 3 more out of usf, uva, Pitt, Lville and bc

I'm worried but have faith in that side of the ball. They will get better. In 2013, Northwestern passed all over us. By the end of the year the pass defense had gotten better. In 2014 Maryland took advantage of our secondary making a couple mistakes. By the end of the year we were decent.

Always tough watching a hang on strategy when the offense falls apart horrendously.
However, our offense threw no short passes into coverage in the second half, and didn't fumble the ball. A extra field goal in the second half and that game was put away. Guess what I am trying to say is in basketball they take air out of the ball to win games late. Had we got that extra field goal, I think there would be much less criticism on the coaches for this game.

Boy am I glad we got the coin toss in overtime, gave us a no brainer 4 downs and a chance to make them kick a field goal. That was a saving grace.

Our secondary got burnt but also got some nice experience in the tight coverage department. Curious if we ever considered taking one of our offensive line men and letting him run a few plays on the defensive line as well in second halfs, to get after the quarterback in close games.

Wilson drove for one touchdown to end the first half people forget that. The deep throw was intercepted on a underthrown ball as the defender was just as athletic. And arguably the first two possessions of he second half sucked and didn't give him a chance to do much. The first two plays of the second half had him running on a fake hand off to our backs, he looked slow on it and CMU didn' t take it serious at all. Our running backs did not run better in overtime because our walk on was in instead.

Yes, this whining is what I am talking about. You are surprised what a 4th and 5th string qb can't do. Without are two best receivers. Defenses get torched all the time in college football. In fact your VAUNTED sec defenses have been torched by Jackson St, Nevada, and yes that lowly Bowling Green from the MAC...

I don't think people really follow the college game these days. So few BIG defenses anymore look at ole miss /bama. Good defense today cause turn overs, tough to just lock down. Why I like Lester and Dungey is they will give us a chance to join the modern game. I think with Dungey we score 41 points yesterday and sure we probably give up 24, BFD. Same amount given up by Texas A&M yesterday to NEVADA. So JV Texas AM and their 10 million staff

How JV is Auburn feeling right now? SEC hype and absurd money thrown at coaches isn't everything.

And, yes 3-0 keeps the season alive, if Dungey can come back for South Florida. Fredericks looks like a real find. The defense isn't good right now, but its very young and should get better.

The concern is that unit for unit, Central Mich clearly outplayed us in the second half. We were holding on by our fingernails, hoping the defense could get a turn-over or two (and they did). Central Mich's QB, TE, RB, and offensive line were better than our guys; we couldn't get a single first down against their defense. So, Central Mich becomes a measuring stick. How good are they?

as bad as the D played for large stretches and really it was mostly 3rd and long D that needed to be fixed, they still were one stop away from allowing 7 pts in the 2nd half. most of the coverage mistakes were mental not physical and that is fixable

Injuries hurt us but then you have to look at Shafer's approach to building a team. Going into 2014, there was nothing at QB behind Hunt. It was an obvious issue. Other head coaches might have brought in a JUCO quarterback.
Similar this year, there were some obvious holes and lack of depth. And lack of size and quality at safety.

This ^^^ ... I swear some of these overcritical clowns live in a vacuum. If Dungey plays the whole game we don't give up 24 ... maybe 20 at most ... the D was on the field for 22 of 30 possible second half minutes because they couldn't move the ball with a walkon QB ... but logic be damned with our fanbase.

I've admitted I'm not a fan of Shafer. I don't really want him as our HC and I think he's JV level. So what? That's my opinion, I'm not attacking him as a man, I think he's a fantastic salt of the earth type guy.

I've also admitted I may be overly hard on this team and when asked about naming positive aspects posted a list of things I like about this team.

I'm capable of having a discussion. The pro-Shafer contingent won't accept anything less than unconditional support it seems.

Hey why didn't you warn me before I wasted my time reading Moonbeams' thread on presser demeanor. I'm old and don't have that much time to waste.

I am always amazed at certain posters who don't show up and post on here unless there is something they can kvetch about... no matter how insignificant. We won. We are 3-0 people try to be happy. You might actually enjoy the feeling.
