Lots of blame to go around last night. But I really hated the last 2 plays JB drew up. On the play Triche was called for the charge, I really would have loved to see them give Southerland, a streak shooter, a chance to make 2 in a row with some momentum. Especially given the fact that they were collapsing hard on Penetration plays at this point. This one I suspect I will have done disagreement on.

But they Cooney's play just blew me away. Im sure this has been discussed ad nauseum (just woke up hungover) but to not have one ball in the air with a chance to tie the game just sucks. Let Cooney, Southerland, or Fair hoist one and see what happens. Give yourself a freaking chance! Ugh.

The charge call was BS. Triche was in the air and that kid moved under him. I hate that freaking call and have seen it over and over this year. You can't move into legal guarding position AFTER the player leaves the floor. It was the same call that Craft got in the Iowa State game. The other call that infuriated me was MCW's 4th. You could read Hop's lips when they showed the bench reaction. He said "That was a charge." Sure was Hop...

I cannot believe that was the way the play was drawn up. Tough to execute when your starting guards have fouled out.

I can live with the Triche play, and had the call gone the right way, we wouldnt be talking about it. As for the Cooney one, I hated it as well, but apparently it's being putting on Cooney for cracking under pressure and wasn't what JB drew up. I certainly HOPE it wasn't what JB drew up. James' position seemed a bit odd on it as well.

Upon further review, I believe that was a horrible play by the Michigan defender. He just happened to get the benefit of a bad call. Why risk an old school three point play and allow us to score from the free throw line? I have no problem with allowing Triche take it to the hole, it was the right play we just got a bad call. I agree with what Jake posted in another thread, tough call to make at full speed so this is not a "we wuz robbed rant."

The hardest part of the night for me was seeing Brandon, who has been nothing short of a warrior, finish his SU career on the bench instead of on the floor where he belonged. Thanks for a great four years BT, you will be missed!

With the Cooney play, I thought he was trying to extend the game. Get a quick two, then foul. Hope they miss one, then have the same desperation three, but to win , not tie.

At least that's my explanation.

OT does us little good without a PG.

Thing is, I don't like the idea of trying to extend the game when your two starting guards are on the bench. Our dynamic playmakers were out. Tie it there.

The last play was supposed to go to Southerland for a 3.

Michigan had James covered, CJ was covered on the other wing ... at that point Cooney didn't want to waste any more time and drove to the hoop to try to get a quick score and another posession.

Ironically, after Cooney released the shot ... Hardaway left CJ, who then rotated to the top of the key. Had SU gotten the rebound ... CJ would have had a wide open look. But Hardaway ended up with the board, and that's all she wrote.

On the Triche drive according to the morning paper it was supposed to br a kickout to Southerland but UM switched and covered it.

Thought about Cooney...ok, down 3. Score, go down one. Foul, they split the shots, we take a 3 to win. We had no shot in OT with that lineup.

I think it was as simple as the play broke down and Cooney tried to do what he could do. I have not seen a replay, but I would be interested in seeing what Fair and JS were attempting to do.

Your last line is absolutely true. Burke would have eaten Cooney up and there was nothing we could do about that. Tough loss, but once MCW and BT fouled out, there was little option of any other ending.
