And I am looking at our Tylers. Hayes and Happ outrebounded Roberson/Lydon 27-6 last year. Every guy was right around 40 minutes. We were out rebounded 51-25 in the overtime loss. If we have any chance at winning tomorrow we need to come close to breaking even on the glass.

That's six more rebounds than two dead guys could have pulled down. They couldn't do worse this year. They will need some help from Coleman, though.

They outrebounded North Carolina and look what that got them.

Not saying we don't need to hold our own of the boards. We do need to control the paint much better than against South Carolina.

What's the word on Wisconsin's defense? Can we expect more of the same crap (but effectively disruptive crap) that we saw the other night? I think I'm actually more worried about that than our rebounding against Wisconsin. I think we'll still lose the battle on the boards on Tuesday, but if we can just keep it from being a total blowout like it was last year and the defense doesn't completely throw us out of our ability to even try and run anything, I think we stand a chance here. What sucks is that if we drop our second in a row against meaningful competition, I don't think we're going to sniff the Top 25 for a while.

Happ is going to destroy us. The game will come down to whether or not Hayes gets going, and if they have someone knocking down 3's. We also need to find a way to score when we couldn't against SC.

Last year was a 66-58 win for Wiscy in OT where Lydon played 37 minutes at C and Bloodshooter managed to get 14 minutes in there. It was definitely not pretty, but I wouldn't call it a blowout. I think this year Coleman can get in there for more than 5 minutes this time around and at least give us 4 PFs because someone is going to have to bang with Hayes and Happ. Last year was essentially the same 5v5 for 40 minutes. Wiscy is only about 7 deep while SU can at least throw some bodies out there at C and Lydon doesn't have to play ol'e defense to stay in the game.

I just meant in terms of the rebounding margin rather than score. We got killed on the boards. Gotta think that if we can keep that from happening again we stand a decent shot at coming out of there with a win. A -26 rebounding margin should doom you every time.

I agree. We also need to hit some shots because Happ is going to kill us. We might be able to limit the damage but they will outrebound us. We need White to hit some shots and our guards to play better. I also think SC is a better defensive team than Wisky by a decent margin so hopefully that plays a role.

The zone limits defensive rebounds, but remember that last season Lydon was the only center, since Coleman was not allowed to play more than a handful of minutes, and absolutely positively could not foul out of the game. He could not fight hard for boards.

If Boeheim tries the same strategy this season (e.g., that they will only have so many possessions and he wants his best offense on the floor) they'll lose the rebound battle again. I don't know, Coleman looks good to me on offense if they just let him take some 8-12 footers & get fouled - he can be a decent FT shooter with some floor time.

Center has been such a messed up position at Syracuse for so long. By the time SU gets a guy who can play the position, he's only here that season, and then it's usually three seasons of W T until the next one figures it out. Chukwu looks like he needs to just calm down, try not to do too much, and protect the rim. From what I've seen he's often trying for blocks well out of position.

If you watched the SC press conference, JB thinks Lydon is our only center this year as well.

Happ will be beast and their PG will hit some bombs. IF we can control the latter I think we are okay. Hayes can be hit or miss for them IMHO. I think he's a little hyped (of course this insures that he goes for 35 tonight).
