Since 2016 under babers we are 3-5 after a bye.

Under shafer it was 3-3.

Under marrone it was 4-1.

I felt confident coming off a bye with Doug. I guess that bled over to Dino. But the record speaks otherwise. This was bad. Totally unprepared.

I hate statistics without context. Did anyone really think an off week was going to fix all the problems we've seen this year? Was it going to bring Trill or Cisco back? Was one week going to fix the oline? Was our dline or linebackers going to suddenly gain 20 lbs? Was it going to transform our 3rd string true freshman QB?

Probably just randomness

We did last year. We were an absolute mess prior to the Duke game. We used that bye week to totally turn the season around. We were a different team after that bye. We had the same chance this year with Louisville and NC State after the bye. If we played two competitive games and got a W in one of them, I would have a lot more faith for next season. Instead last night totally ruined what little faith I had after seeing us play more competitive against Clemson, Wake, and BC. We actually took a step backwards. That is the 2nd time it has happened this year. After looking competitive against UNC/Pitt and beating GA Tech, we took a major step backwards against Duke. Bye weeks should be springboard yet we have seen the opposite 3 times out of 4 the last 2 seasons. That is a red flag for me.

Pay attention to the fifth word in my post, context. The context this year is completely different than last year. Our problems this year were/are not getting fixed quickly.

I thought we'd look somewhat capable of moving the ball.

I'm really not asking for a lot.

I didn't think we would look as bad as we did, but I didn' expect much change from what we've seen. Teams know we have an inexperienced freshman QB playing behind an oline that is bad, either because of lack of talent, injuries, or both. Why not sit on the run and bring the house on 3rd and long? You bring 7 and cover the 2 WRs we're gonna put out in the pattern with 4 guys. It's a simple formula at this point.

We have short running backs playing o line, a qb who doesn't know how to hold a ball, a #1 receiver who acts like a fool who should probably get tested for osteoporosis. There can't be a worse offensive lineup in fbs

I get throwing out this year- we would be 3-4 if you exclude this year. Last nights debacle was not included in the initial stat.

My concern is the lack of self scouting- moving away from tendencies during the bye week. During marrones first year I want to say we crushed a decent Rutgers team in the dome. There was one play that really stood out to me- averian collier ran untouched for a touchdown. It was something that the staff recognized we were doing from a specific formation. So much so that Rutgers did a predictable defensive shift. They then exploited that.

I have never seen the current staff do anything remotely like this. Something simple would be the predictable rpo on first down where we hand off 99.9% of the time for a 1-2 yard gain. I guess because 2nd and 8 is better than 2nd and 10. But I don’t understand why we don’t go nuts and get a te pop pass in there.

I know the o line is an issue. And the true freshman qb. And the receivers. But it’s not like the are setting these guys up for any kind of success
