Recruiting advice from past/current parents (or recruits)?

Some of the problem there is that many of these HS coaches are as ignorant about the recruiting process as the parents...or just not very proactive.

I dont think that would be the case where this kid attends. High School football is a pretty important part of the fabric of the community where this boy hails from and he appears to be playing at the top classification in PA. Our own James Mungro was a star there. Having said that, he still needs to be as proactive as possible.

I am sorry for being presumptuous, but with his last name, he could be Hispanic, Bi, or Multi-racial. PA is loaded with quality liberal arts colleges, many of which are not very diverse, and this could be another hook. Schools like Dickinson, Gettysburg, &M, the aforementioned Ursinus and Muhlenberg, and Juniata, are excellent schools, none of which are more than a 3 hour drive away. Then schools like Susquehanna, Lebanon Valley, Lycoming, Moravian, and Desales are all respectable academically, quite close, and would probably dole out lots of aid to a minority student with good grades.

I have some experience in this realm as i ultimately played a sport in college at a lac in Pennsylvania, and the school loved having Mrs. Shrmdougluvr, who is biracial, since it was severely lacking in diversity.

Most of this would apply to the FCS schools in PA as well, such as Lafayette, Lehigh, and Bucknell, but probably a little less so (their larger reps tend to attract more minority students).

Looks like he has done S n C. Decent #'s.

5.84 40yd, and 5.2 shuttle could be problematic. For Cuse, I think there are 3 linemen with 4.7 or under shuttles. Most 40s would be about 5, with Servais breaking 5.

I know1 kid with a 5.5 forty that wound up d2. 6'7 300lbs. There are some FBS with 5 second shuttles that have demonstrated exceptional ability, or length.

I'm of the mindset that each tier is often separated by 1 inch or 1 tenth of a second. Hope this young man has a great season!

Wondering; are those numbers from a camp, or are they from the high school?

Just some hudls I remember from HS. Dont remember Steven's, but I do know he displayed exceptional ability, and strength.

I've found similar #'s in recruiting guidelines, which I posted. (For each position) There are more in depth ones that cover shuttle times, vert, etc They are more difficult to find, as the online scam recruiting services give less info, so they can prey on unsuspecting parents.

Recruiting-101 - Holding your hand through the recruiting process was invaluable as a resource when first learning about the recruiting process. Certainly helped me to get started. Most of the information is free, though I did buy two PDFs (which I found to be quite helpful).

But, yeah, there are a number of "services" that "service" themselves to the money of parents who are clueless as to how things work, or when the process should start.

Helpful advice. Thank you. He’s been looking heavily at the Lehigh/Colgate/Bucknell type schools for some of reasons noted above including grades (he’s a smart kid with straight As). Those types of schools have shown interest. But I assume he needs to be contacting more schools and pushing the issue himself as much as possible. It’s just a foreign concept to his family so they haven’t done the proactive push as much as they should have.

I was wondering about prep school - I think physically it could probably help him a lot and give him more time to reset the recruiting game.

He should also consider West Point, Annapolis and Air Force Academy. With his grades and skill level he would be a shoe in to get an appointment. He actually could even qualify to become a pilot...as he is probably at the top end of the sitting height requirement.

The military academies each take in about 50 cadets identified as Football Players. They have a JV team too. Many of these cadets are just marginal D-1 players but with 50 a year...they can take in reaches. The players sort themselves out. The academies have a prep school too for academic reaches and players they want to mature another year. They can attend without a commitment to the military through the end of their Sophomore year (which can include an extra prep year). If a cadet/football player decies to leave he is a shoe in for admittance to virtually any school out there.

It isn't for everyone though.
