That's probably where we should be regarding those states. Maybe a little too high in NY.

Thanks for pulling this together.

Very surprised no OH kids since 2010, only 1 kid from New England in 4 years and MD/DC is pretty much non-existent. All 3 of those trends surprise me as SU should be stronger in each of those areas.

Way to many NY guys given the level of play in that state

Agree. Ideally I would like to see

Around 20 from NY
Around 16 from Fla
Around 12 from PA
Around 6 from each of GA, NJ, VA, OH
Around 6 total from the North (MD, DE, NE)
Around 6 total from the South (NC, SC, Tenn)

That brings us to about the 85 scholarship limit.

What about Michigan?

Aside from that omission, it certainly looks like those numbers are where we are trending based on this years class.

I am not sure we can have success long term in Michigan. It isn't an easy drive, going through Canada is a PIA. We don't play any teams from Michigan. We are in an East Coast conference not a Midwestern one. Heck if we were stuck in the BE then I would add Texas to that list thanks to SMU and Houston. Obviously as long as Wheatley is here we should recruit in Michigan. But if Wheatley moves on we lose our ability to bring kids in from that state.

MI = OH in my mind

We soon wont be playing teams from there either unless it's a MAC team which again OH = MI

Detroit -> Syracuse is the same drive time as Columbus -> Syracuse or an easier flight
Lansing or Ann Arbor -> Syracuse = Cincinnati -> Syracuse and you can stay stateside for that drive

How does GA football compare to FLA, OH, PA and MI in terms of talent? If it's a notch below FLA, but better than the others, shouldn't we hit it even harder than we appear to be now? Especially with the move to the ACC?

I think we should only be recruiting Eastern Ohio. That is an easy drive to Syr, Pitt, and several ACC schools. Families will be able to see their kids play. Central/Western Ohio and all of Michigan are a hike. Which means flight$ are needed. Big difference.

Agree with that logic. Hopefully once we get to be an established program once more, we wont have to reach so far unless it's an abnormally talented guy.

With the move to the ACC, I think we'll just be wasting our time in MI and OH. GA high school football is legit, and I like that we're in the infancy of planting a flag in that state. I'd like to see us grab some more talent out of MD and VA (especially the Tidewater region). It seems like speed comes from the south.

The core of this team for the last 25 plus years has been 4 states: NY (25 on average), PA, NJ, FL with each around 11 kids on average.

It used to be that NE + Canada would have between 12 and 15 kids on the team, but that stopped when P left.

The balance of the roster has been filled by various regions over time. For a while the emphasis was on the MidAtlantic and Texas, that has decreased and some of the effort has shifted to Michigan, Georgia and Ohio based on what next years roster looks like, so that those three states along with Maryland and Virginia have 3 or 4 kids each on the roster next year.

I would like to see us try and get some kids from the Carolinas as well. Let's leverage the fact that 5 schools from those states are in our conference now. There is some good talent there.

The staff has spent a shite load of time and resources using and building Ty Wheatley connections.

Last year, two guys who played as frosh in Crume and Foster from MI. This year, we add our star TE of the future and an olineman.

Lotta talent and some underrated jems. Look at all the ECU guys in the NFL.

True. I'm just skeptical about utilizing resources in an area where Syracuse really won't be playing very much. If there are Mich HS coaches funneling talent to TW, I'm not saying we turn them away. I'm just saying it may not be the best use of time and money to recruit the midwest.

Only Texas, Florida, and California put out more D1 FB players than Georgia last year, and it's one of only 5 states to have produced more than 100. According to Rivals, 170 came from Georgia (compared to 29 from
NY, 45 from NJ, and 60 from PA. PA production has really slid over the past decade-or-so, but it's still the biggest producer in the northeast.

GA is a good target, but to win consistently, SU needs to take advantage of whatever talent comes from NYS. This article from a few years back sheds a little light, and suggests HCDM may be wise to do what he can to help with the development of NYS HS players.

Oh, and Ohio is # 5 with 140 signees last year, so a potentially big target there, too.

I'd be interested to see the breakdown for GROB'S 4 years and P'S last 4 as well. Pure speculation here but I don't think Robinson brought as much Western influence as I initially thought he would. I understand 'Cuse is a tough sell to the West Coast but I thought at the time of his hiring he'd be able to pull some of those kids.

Like to think that Marrone would try to mirror the grounds that Coach P mined but the landscape has changed since then. Rutgers and UConn weren't a factor back then and we were a serious option for the Pa kids. This is a perfect time to recapture some Pa grounds with the termoil going on with Pitt and Penn State. The assistants and Marrone have to find out what they need to do to sell the Cuse to these kids. How can they sell the hoops program at Butler or the football program at Temple? I believe we have great things to offer here in upstate NY at the Cuse for a a young person.

I love that breakdown that would be very ideal for the Orange. VA football is starting to step it up, this coming up years class is loaded. There was some great playoff football I got to enjoy this year and on those teams there was a lot of junior talent.

I think that moving forward you will see us hit Maryland VA much harder. As long as wheat is on staff might as well keep our toes in Michigan. It will be interesting to see if our new coaches have strong recruiting ties to any of the acc states

I would have to think that's a priority. I coach football in North Carolina, they have a lot of talent in the state. It would be wise for SU to try and get a foot into the states that they will be playing in every year/other year.

Slow day at work, so I took a shot. A couple notes:
1 - TOS's commit lists only go back to 2002, so P got shorted by one year.
2 - There are a few prep/JUCO's in there where their post-HS team was listed instead of their actual hometown. I didn't bother to resolve those, so states with those schools are probably overstated a little bit.
