I've not been a big fan of the last 3 years, and I'm not sure I'm quite buying into the "we're back" talk yet, but credit where credit is due - Red has fixed the defense. Outside of the second half of ISU this team has been a good/great defensive team. Last night, they were spectacular on that end of the court. Will Kyle and Sadiq White are so much fun to watch, with their athleticism and hustle. Hats off to Red and the staff.

With Donnie Freeman out there's 35 more minutes for up and coming guys like Sadiq to fill. He's going to develop a little faster than what was planned - and that's great for our defense.

And in the long run White might well end up being the better upside. He plays both ends of the court, and has attitude.
He wants to be great consistently.

By fixing the defense, they got some players who are athletic and they're not punting positions?

I still can't believe that SU started Chris Bell for three seasons.

Our defense is about as efficient as the 2016 E8 team, which will keep us in games. Gotta take things up another level to hang with the 2013 final four boys. Our offense, on the other hand, is another story. Gotta get more efficient if we want to win games consistently .

Fix this now, blasphemer!

This was a Jimmy vs Joes fix (not Boeheim and Girard).

I don’t think there is anything new about the scheme or coaching. It’s going from Eddie Lampkin to Will Kyle; Chris Bell to Nate Kingz; Jaquan Carlos to Nait George; Jyare Davis to Sadiq White, etc.

Mostly agree, but the striking thing to me is that Starling’s defense is markedly improved. He was among the worst defenders I’ve seen at Syracuse. He still has limitations, but he’s giving great effort and mitigating them. He and Red/staff deserve credit for that.

It seems JJ is starting to see what made Duany such a key as a Senior on the Championship team. A Senior leader willing to lead by example to have a good to great season. Not the star , but a great supporting piece.

I very much agree with this. You really don't know how good a coach is when his talent is way below the other team's talent.

I'm currently undefeated in my youth basketball coaching career... But I know it's because I randomly got the two best players in the league on my team two years in a row. Maybe next year I'll find out if I can actually coach.

This year Red has decent talent and while he hasn't been completely outcoached, he also hasn't done anything amazing.

I give him a lot of credit for assembling a better roster, but I am not sold on his in game coaching.

These next few games we should be holding everyone under 60. Hopefully a few of them under 50. Should be a few BIG blowouts and we should be getting Donnie back. Get the team chemistry, and flow where it needs to be the next few games with Donnie working his back and be full throttle by Clemson/conference play

I think ACC play is where we need to really see if Autry is cut out for the big chair. The fanbase can't stomach going 9-9 in ACC play again or dropping let down games to GTech and Pitt. Or losing the 1st round of the ACCT yet again.

No one is expecting him to outcoach Sampson or Barnes, those guys are at the end of their careers, he's just got to be able to hang with them. In the ACC though there's no excuse. He's gotta be able to able to win in the league or someone else can.

We have an Identity forming on Defense, Autry needs to lean into that hard for ACC play. Especially because there's not alot of tough defense being played across the ACC right now.

For me it's not even the defensive stats like turnovers and blocks and the low scoring affairs that are impressive. We run through screens now and have multiple guys that want to battle in the paint and then we'll be in your face all the way up the court. We have been the more physical team than teams that are know for their physicality and that's in November. Really I don't even recognize this team sometimes.
