Remember in July when we all thought Rutgers would only win 3 games

Kyle is a bright guy. Cannot speak for SS but the knocking of Flood is really misguided.

They are 6-5 and every good team they've played has curbed stomped them. Yawn.

Flood's best coaching move in there years was hiring fridge as OC

I was one of the posters who felt Rutgers wouldn't win more than 3. They've played far better than I expected they would and yes, I think Ralph Friegen is the reason. I didn't expect them to beat Washington St. or Indiana, let alone Michigan. They are going bowling and we are not. It has certainly changed my mind on OOC scheduling. They are 3 games better than I figured they'd be. SU is 3 games worse. I figured SU would be on the same level as Louisville. Injuries have certainly had a major impact, but we obviously have seen the problems beyond injuries with this disgustingly bad offense. Hopes dashed yet again this year. Its flat out tough to watch our games this year for me. I can only imagine what its like for people to watch who are casual fans or just people looking for a good football game.

As already said, scheduling can really help or hurt you. Its great that SU schedules big name programs but I believe there is merit to scheduling cupcakes so the team can work on things in a real game instead of practice.

Regardless of scheduling, 6 wins sure looks better than 3 from the outside. The only thing I take away is that at least we remained somewhat competitive in most of our games. Loss is a loss though, so it sucks sour onions. We need to start winning.

Nova was our supposed cupcake and SU got lucky to beat them

put in thier 4th string QB and see what happens. You think it's all SS? HA

He's really our 2nd string qb. Only reason Long was 4th string was because they were going to redshirt him. As soon as Hunt went down foe the year, Long became #2.

I'm so sick of the scheduling excuse thing. We barely beat Nova. Lost to a MEDIOCRE Maryland team, a MEDIOCRE NC State team and a MEDIOCRE Pitt team. As of right now, none of the teams we played in the non-conference are ranked in the top 25. How is that "over-scheduling?" This team is just not good, from the coaching on down, regardless of the schedule they have played.

I was *not* someone who thought RU would win only 3 games. The days of RU being a guaranteed win are over. They may never win anything that matters, but it'll take a miracle for them to go back to how bad they used to be.

nc state is injury related .pitt we just cant beat. Maryland is mediocre but there skills guys are superior to ours

Perhaps they were supposed to be. However, my point is that it would be beneficial to the team to have live game experiences to try out things instead of being in games where you just can't do this. Perhaps, if such games were played this year McD could have tuned his scheme to fit the talent (pipe dream?); perhaps, the mistakes could have been observed and corrected, etc.

Having said that, when Drew Allen started and we looked like crap, Hunt relieved him (Wagner, I think) and he looked great and continued to look very good until we hit the ACC schedule and our offense didn't look so great.

So, not saying that it would have helped, but having 6 wins to be bowl eligible, which gives all those additional practice time, is worth something I would think. No one is going to look back and look at the schedules as long as you make a bowl, and the team would/should benefit from going to a bowl game.

I agree. Looking at next year's schedule it's pretty close to an OOC I'd like to see. Open with a FCS (Rhode Island), 1 marquee game (LSU), and 2 lower level FBS (Central Michigan and USF). My only minor quibble is I'd swap USF out for someone lower on the food chain.

if we had played there schedule this year even with the injuries were bowling

Even with the injuries? We averaged 12.5 points per game in our losses. So which 6 teams on Rutgers schedule were we going to hold to 10 and under?

Do people realize that in 7 of the last 13 seasons, we have had 8 or more losses?

Everyone points to the Nova game...Yes, we were lucky to beat them without our starting QB. How well would Nova have done on equal footing without their starting QB who basically was their entire team? They wouldn't have score 3 points.

I thought before this season started this team would win 4 games if Hunt got hurt and that was just Hunt...not so many of the players that they had miss games. Granted, they might just win 3 but the point remains that these losses were huge and that is fact.

The key question in the offseason is why so many players were hurt. Is it bad luck or is there something in the training regimen that could be done differently.

Broken legs what can you do? As for the rest as it regards strength and conditioning I don't know but obviously a question that has to be asked and looked into.

michigan and penn st blow, that won't last. maryland and rutgers should enjoy topping out at 6 or 7 wins

nova had a 188 rating in wins, 83 in losses. they were hopeless against good teams but fridge got him right for the games they could win

that's the difference between us and them

Our defense is about 90 spots better than Rutgers.
