Remember the temple game near the end of the P era?

Temple beat us running the same QB read play the whole game. That was a large turning point (to the worse) for P. This loss is as bad as that one. No excuse for how bad our defense was today.
And no obvious adjustments.
That one sucked and I hate that I have to relive that memory now after this abomination so, thanks?

I don't classify that loss with this one. Abominations each, but on different levels, imo

Yes I was thinking about that during the game

To be fair even tony whites 3-3-5 would’ve been decimated out there today. Whites scheme was vulnerable to power football.

Was that the game where Collin Barber missed a PAT late in the game?

The immortal Walter Washington over left guard play over and over again. The biggest P aplogists used to site Walter's arena league stats as an excuse

'*Apologists?' Twenty years later and you still can't figure out that P was an excellent coach?

From 1991-1998 you could make the argument though he left too may wins on the table in those years. 1999 - 2004 not really. The 2001 dead cat bounce Freeney year was cool. I wish he'd gone public about "get a life" Buzz draining the program to fund the general school budget.

Nah a good running team off a bye had it's way with our 3rd string DL. Not saying we deserved to win but the offense kept us right there. Wasn't a home game.

Won't beat Cal if we play that bad but fans are eager to impose stupid expectations and think we should be in the playoffs.

I think Coach P was a fantastic coach. His “flaw” was loyalty that worked to his detriment - both he and Jake were loyal company men who quietly dealt with the fact the school was taking revenues our competition was putting into athletic facilities for use in other ways. The result was we were falling further and further behind off the field, which finally broke through into on the field performance (severely in 1999).

As much heat as Jimbo Fisher gets for the way he left Florida State, the reality is he probably handled a similar situation in the better way. (Him being an overrated coach who imploded at Texas A&M is separate from how and why he left FSU).

I remember thinking that Coach P should have been fired on the field after that disaster at Temple. It wasn't until later that I learned how the program had been starved for resources which gave me a new perception and appreciation for Coach P's perseverance.

At some point when the ability to do your job is impacted that much you have to speak up. Maybe he did internally.

Huh? You think a team with sustained success losing to one of the worst programs in the country is the same as a team losing a game while working to dig itself out of a sustained hole?

I was at that game. It was trash.

He was a fine coach who's time had come.
I will take to my grave that the wrong hire does not mean it was not time for a change.

But I digress. I don't have time for like the 2000th back and forth on this ;)

Unfortunately the succession plan made the NY Jets look organized. Jake's tenure should have ended August 1st 2004 so Dr. Gross had an entire season to evaluate.

I remember Greg R. first game vs. West Virginia and Pat White kept running that QB read option...He had a hand signal I picked up every time he was going to run the ball, and we still couldn't stop him

Can we all PLEASE remember that a first time head coach is going to take us to a bowl game? When’s the last time that happened? Has it ever happened?
