Remember when...

I remember when February rolled around we would be talking about our ranking, how many byes we would receive in our conference tourney, what seed we were going to get for the NCAAs and what region we might headed to for the NCAAs. Now we worry about not getting blown out and embarrassed in games. My, my how far we have fallen.

Remember when Syracuse used to be competitive...that was awesome.

Ten years ago I’d be looking at Kenpom, bracketology, ESPN, other message boards to see what they were saying about us, and now I just sit around thinking of ways I can call our point guard fat.

That Hill move at the .28 second mark...id kill just to see a player make that move and aggressively dunk it on someone again.

The lineup with that Hill dunk had JB, Hill, Z, Janulis, and Cipolla.

so...
John freakin Wallace didn’t play 40 in the elite 8.
JB using bench for fun lineups to get some rest for stars, using actual 3 pt threats to get SPACING for hill
LENGTH makes the zone hard to shoot against

none of this happens anymore

Remember when thread so we can look back at when we were exciting to watch. Johnny Flynn ain't walking through that door anytime soon. :-(

Oh wow, non b-ball post coming, but I gotta do it because it caught me by surprise. The beat in the background of that is from the song “I See Now” by Little Brother and hearing it while watching Jonny hit me with an enormous wave of nostalgia. A song they made with Kanye before he was famous. Former group member 9th Wonder made the beat.(he was and is better than Kanye at it) I lived in the same city as one of them and knew some of the same people, and sorta knew him by association. He sent me one of their early albums over AIM before it came out. They’re “my group”.

Carry on...

Whatever happened to alley oops?

Yeah, that really stands out when you watch old highlights. Douglas was famous for them, but Sims and GMac threw a ton of them too.

But just watching any other old highlights, you’ll see Hart or Flynn throwing a bunch.

Anyone remember the alley-oop that Josh Wright caught? Can’t remember who threw it. Back then our PG - and no offense meant but one of our weaker PGs - was capable of throwing down a ridiculous alley oop dunk.

How would Paul Harris fit into today's team?

The fans use to keep track of the dunks per game in the upper row of the dome. Now they would only need to bring the numbers 1 and 2. We just aren't athletic at all anymore. Just look at that dunkfest against Indiana. They didn't try to score a layup . They jammed it....well except Matt Roe.

This cannot be repeated enough: a reserve center was playing power forward, in zone defense, while the school's fifth all-time leading scorer sat on the bench in the second half of a game where the winner would go to the Final Four and the loser wouldn't play anymore.

That team's coach was better than this team's coach.

Also, the Hill footwork is amazing.

Also, the play before that was I believe the first and last time Todd Burgan's up-fake tricked a perimeter defender. Which is still infinitely more often than Tyler Lydon had the same success with his fake.

Devendorf, because why wouldn't he?

Though really it the diagonal pass is a smart play against a zone, the weakside wing is asleep half the time.
