Disclaimer: I was not able to watch eth SU-FSU game live. I watched a replay. The following are my first impressions, discussion is fair, keep it impersonal. I have no tyet read others' reviews and post game thoughts so as not to taint my review.

Good:
- The level of talent is not that much greater, at least with regards to the 1's. Our Orange were with FSU speed wise, and talent wise for the most part. I will not dispute the difference in talent levels after the ones, but I am encouraged when our ones hung with FSU.
- Shrader can throw, it ain't pretty, it ain't impressive, but he can throw. And he likes to hit several targets.
- We have receivers. The kids caught what they could and go forward.
- This team wants to win. The kids did not get down, the never gave in.
- The defense is ready to play with most any team out their.
- Adams catching passes out of the backfield is a good utilization - should be done a few more times per game.
- Tucker is Tucker.
- The O-Line is for real. Enjoy the ride.
- Babers said when he got here that he wanted two 1,00 yard rushers, we may see it.

Bad:
- ACC Refs suck. Get used to it.
- The play calling was "weak sauce", there were plays working and they should have been used more. This may be because Shrader has not fully learned the offense, Babers claims it takes 1.5 seasons to fully learn the offense. Regardless, there are more options with this team in this offense, use them.
- The soft defense was a bad plan, showing too much respect for FSU athletes, when their yardage may have been cut by 25% or more had the D played normal.
- The coaching calls - soft defense, weak offensive play calls - raise questions

Ugly:
- The 4th an 2 was a good call to go for it, but a bad play call, just my opinion. Regardless, Babers has growing confidence in this offense, this could be a good sign.
- The passing game needs work. The receivers look to be legit. Shrader, Gilbert, and Babers all have work to do.\
- Tucker is Tucker, but we need Adams and others to carry a portion of the load or Tucker will be spent before the end of the year. That is the wrong way to give Adams carries.
- We still have work to do- SU should have won the game outright.
- Smzyt is human, the timing stinks, but he is still a top kicker in the game.
- Babers said when he arrived that he wanted 4,000 or 5,000 yards passing, it won't be this fall...

Other musings:
- As noted above, SU should have won the game, part of this is on coaching and a little on the players. The coaches calling the game not to lose and the players playing without the same abandon that got them through September. I.e.: Pulling up on a tackle on the sideline when the D should ride the runner out of bounds is an experience issue, I know penalty flags, but riding a runner out of bounds is a minimum. Some tackles were weak, need to do better.
- Shrader is not going to work out the throwing motion and he will have issues on some throws. TD will come in handy down the road.
- The kids have grit, never give up. Sucks to the be the rest of the teams on the schedule.
- Babers has the team to get to a bowl, even 8 wins this fall. (assumes additional offense growth) Yes, it could go the other way, but I could see this as 2018-lite.

Have at it, my fellow Orange fans. These are just my take. See what the other experts - real coaches and arm chair alike - have to say. Regardless, I believe the Orange are going in a good direction.

Good post. How’d you rewatch it (wanna do so myself, or actually in my case Watch it for the first time).

YouTube, there are usually several options, full game, highlights and the game without the fluff (play clock, commercials, etc.).
'Search for Syracuse Orange football and, if necessary, FSU

Very level-headed rewatch.

Could see this team pulling a 2018 run……could also see this team losing out.

Dino and company have to fully buy into GS and trust in him to run the offense
Agreed, the wheels could fall off this bus, but the talent is there to run the table. I see a 6 wins and bowl, am hopeful for 8 wins.

With the ACC down, I expect at least three more wins.

Szmyt is human, but the missed PAT was on the holder. The laces were facing backwards.
People always worry about the laces.. has anyone actually proven it has any effect on a fball these days? This isnt the fball of the 60s we are trying to kick.

much like they say dont dive to first base when that has been proven wrong.

I wonder about the reference above to Babers’ comment (not from this season) that it takes 1.5 years/seasons to learn “the offense”. Which offense? We aren’t running the up-tempo, pass happy offense that Dino used at BGSU. The heart of this attack is Tucker’s running, now combined with Shrader’s legs and ability to create, mixing in a modest amount of passing.

I would file that comment under “Babers says things.”

Fair enough, but the plays themselves haven't changed and Babers still requires the final decision on the play after the O has lined up and once they read the D line-up, at least as I understand it I have not heard where Babers or Gilbert are calling the play and there is no final read or option. This was one of the knocks on TD, that he could no read the D once the D lined up against him.

If I am wrong, I will stand corrected.

I was going to make the exact same point. Agree 1000%. The offense that Lewis and Babers installed, yes. The Gilbert version…I have my doubts.

Nobody questions Ace Ventura.

The one thing I was always highly impressed with under Lewis is he ALWAYS had an original play in his back pocket when we needed that huge 3rd or 4th down pick up. That is long gone. If we win it will be in spite of Gilbert.

Reasonable observations. My concern is the schedule. Next three games of Wake, Clemson and Virginia Tech will be a real challenge. We could play well and lose all three. If that happens we would need to beat at least 3 of BC, Louisville, NC State and Pittsburgh.

A couple of injuries on the defensive could spell real trouble and I still have concerns about the OLine as s alot of our yardage was on busted plays. If Gilbert goes with option type plays and play action to force teams to defend the whole field I would feel better about our chances. We could be pretty special with Tucker and Adams in a 2 back set with Shrader.

I thought it was a good call - just needed more touch on the floater.

that was also the play that sealed the win at Clemson.
Looked to me like they weren't on the same page for how deep Mang was going to be. Could have been a bad pass or Mang turned too quickly. I rewatched it a few times and couldn't tell. I'm leaning towards a little of both. Timing to get off the block mixed with a touch high.

And 6 years later we still aren’t running that offense lol

I Thought the rusher got to Shrader a little quicker than he was ready for. so he tried to float it to compensate. Haven’t had a chance to rewatch yet though.

I can see us winning 1 or 2 out of the next 3.

I also can see us winning 1-3 out of the last 4.

We will need luck, improved coaching, specials play, health, and turnover margin to get the top end of 5 wins out of 7.

Realistic we probably will win 2 minimum.

We may also end up 3-9, but a better team than we were in 2019 if that makes any sense
