Rick Bozich has UK #1

Why do I get that sneaking suspicion the SU won't be #1 and whenever they lose one game they'll plummet in the rankings.

He is just trying to pick a fight. If we were Kansas or Duke it would be expected that we move up because the teams above us lost. Because we are Syracuse and have a rabid fan base, every tool in the nation with a blog or a poll is going to try to get that fan base to react to their ranking. Same story every year with these guys. I get tiresome. JMHO:noidea:

I wouldn't say this guy is a hater, but I would expect a lot of people to make things harder on us because of the scandel.

I can understand that many "people" still consider us untested because we haven't had a "true road game", its the same nonsense every year. Let's not take who they play or how they played into account, it only matters where we play apparently.

Ohio State lost to a good, highly ranked Kansas team in an away game. I could see them making a case to remain number one, even if I don't agree. However, no matter how much credit you give Indiana for being a tough place to play, having a great coach and an underrated team the fact remains they were still unranked. I don't care where the game is played. #1, #2, #whatever shouldn't lose to an unranked team here or on the moon. If it turns out Indiana proves to be a great team, we can take it into account for Kentucky then.

I don't think it's nonsense. We don't play a lot of road games OOC. Teams play worse on the road than at home.

Though to be fair, Stanford is at least making out schedule look better. They're 15th in the pom Rankings. So we've played two teams in the top 15 in those rankings. (Also just two teams in the top 50 though, it all depends where you put the endpoints).

But I'm not going to put too much stock in IU being unrranked. They have a pretty good team. Zeller is a beast.

Ok then ... 2 for OSU at #1 (Davis &Miller) and 1 for Kentucky (God knows why Bozich)

Of course SU 3rd in RPI; Kentucky 8th;and OSU 27th

but then we are 14th SOS; Kentucky 44th; and OSU 90th

this is what you get when pollsters rank teams based on computer numbers and NBA draft boards instead of actually watching games

As opposed to just ranking teams based on where they were last week, and if they won or not this week?

Still annoyed with SU for jumping the Big East ship. I am still willing to bet the kids called him Bozo the clown when he was growing up and he's just grown into the role now that he's an adult.

that guy is a hater

Good post. I could see IU being a Sweet 16 team. The guy who hit the shot is good and that guard from DeMatha who threw down that dunk is good too.

Don't worry about it. He's an IU homer. In his mind, #1 teams are supposed to lose to IU so it shouldn't be held against them. He probably picks fights with "cutters" on the weekends for old time's sake too.

Not that I want to defend Kentucky, but the reason Indiana was unranked was because they hadn't played anyone and no one had expectations that they were going to be good. They are undefeated and had beat every team they played by double digits until they played Kentucky. That includes the likes of Butler and NC State.

Guy takes a shot at SU about not playing a "true road game" until this Saturday at NC State.

Hypocritically votes Kentucky #1 just two days after their first "true road game", which so happens to be a loss.

I guess it's okay if you wait until Dec 10th to go on the road, but not okay if you wait until Dec 17th.

Thats all fine and dandy, but kentucky just played their "first true road game" of the season and LOST and didnt get penalized. You think if we were #1 and lost to indiana on saturday we'd still be #1? Hell to the no.

And we have a better rpi and sos than both kentucky and ohio state. Call me crazy, but overall SOS is more important than how many road games youve played. Theres absolutely no reason for us not to be #1 this week, and this tool has us #3 LOL

That's fine, and you're right. But how did Kentucky not get penalized? They dropped in the polls. I don't see how they didn't get penalized.

Like I said before, I think the overall SOS is a bit of a red herring, especially this early in the season. At this point, I think it's more appropriate to look at games you could have potentially lost. For a great team like SU or Kentucky or UNC or whoever, the difference between playing say #150 orr #250 is pretty much irrelevant, they're going to win that game no matter who they play, especially if it's at home.

If you look at the Pom rankings, we've played 2 top 50 teams, plus 2 fringe top 50 teams. (Florida and Stanford, plus Va Tech and Marshall. Marshall is #55, and VA Tech is #51). 2 of those games were at home, 2 were at MSG).

Kentucky has played 3 teams in the top 15 of the Pom rankings, one of them at home, one at MSG, and one on the road. No one else in the top 100. Ohio State has played 3 teams in the top 11, 2 at home and one on the road. Carolina has played 5 top 50 teams, 2 on the road, 2 at home, and 1 neutral site.

So like I said, this early in the season especially, I am much less concerned with whatever your SOS ranking is than who you have played. 6 of the 10 teams we've played we were gonna beat if we were #30 or 50 in the country.

So that's not to say we've played a totally weak schedule, or that we don't deserve to be ranked #1. But that's how I look at things.

It's definitely worth pointing out t hat Stanford is still in the top 15 of the Pom rankings. I definitely didn't see that one coming. Would be nice if they can stay say in the top 30 for the year.

I don't think that's nonsense either. I just wish there was as much talk about road games and road wins in March as there is in December. For all our lack of OOC road trips we always (at least recently) seem to have more road wins vs ncaa tournament teams than just about anyone at the end of the season; but nobody ever brings that up. I don't understand the obsession with OOC. I mean does anyone care if WVU plays a tougher OOC than Alabama in football?
