Thats all fine and dandy, but kentucky just played their "first true road game" of the season and LOST and didnt get penalized. You think if we were #1 and lost to indiana on saturday we'd still be #1? Hell to the no.
And we have a better rpi and sos than both kentucky and ohio state. Call me crazy, but overall SOS is more important than how many road games youve played. Theres absolutely no reason for us not to be #1 this week, and this tool has us #3 LOL
That's fine, and you're right. But how did Kentucky not get penalized? They dropped in the polls. I don't see how they didn't get penalized.
Like I said before, I think the overall SOS is a bit of a red herring, especially this early in the season. At this point, I think it's more appropriate to look at games you could have potentially lost. For a great team like SU or Kentucky or UNC or whoever, the difference between playing say #150 orr #250 is pretty much irrelevant, they're going to win that game no matter who they play, especially if it's at home.
If you look at the Pom rankings, we've played 2 top 50 teams, plus 2 fringe top 50 teams. (Florida and Stanford, plus Va Tech and Marshall. Marshall is #55, and VA Tech is #51). 2 of those games were at home, 2 were at MSG).
Kentucky has played 3 teams in the top 15 of the Pom rankings, one of them at home, one at MSG, and one on the road. No one else in the top 100. Ohio State has played 3 teams in the top 11, 2 at home and one on the road. Carolina has played 5 top 50 teams, 2 on the road, 2 at home, and 1 neutral site.
So like I said, this early in the season especially, I am much less concerned with whatever your SOS ranking is than who you have played. 6 of the 10 teams we've played we were gonna beat if we were #30 or 50 in the country.
So that's not to say we've played a totally weak schedule, or that we don't deserve to be ranked #1. But that's how I look at things.
It's definitely worth pointing out t hat Stanford is still in the top 15 of the Pom rankings. I definitely didn't see that one coming. Would be nice if they can stay say in the top 30 for the year.
