The starting 5 is cooked

I know I’m piling on and beating a dead horse, but Carlos has sunk to a James Thues level of play.

For those youngins that never saw James play, his best attribute as a point guard was his ability to track down loose rebounds.

JB literally at times, and this is not an exaggeration, would tell him to bring the ball over mid court, pass the ball to anyone else, and then stand as far away from the action as possible. It was comical.

Even at that, he was a better defender than what Carlos is showing at this point.
And James Thues at least got 2.8 steals per game, so he was doing something on defense.

The 23-13 team from 2001-2002 would be a dream season at this point.
Yet we remember it as comically bad. :vomit:

Shocked (not really) that sports reference has Carlos as our best defender (although negative).
Wait, the entire starting 5 is in the negative?

I knew it was bad but I couldn't have even imagined it was that bad.

I expect to see a change to the starting lineup next game. The writing is all over the wall!
Will you be shocked if there wasn't a change? I wouldn't be shocked if the guys who brought us back and gave us a nice lead play limited minutes the second half.

I would not. Carlos is this year's Justin Taylor, apparently. It seems like he's a good guy and works hard, but it's time to move forward.
I don't understand. In a post above, you said that you expect to see a change in the starting lineup. And right under that you said you wouldn't. ??????

cuffe is so much better than carlos
Cuffe seems to have the physical skills necessary to contribute. Cuffe missed that putback dunk, but Carlos isn't even going to compete for that rebound.

This is another game reinforcing Carlos isn't able to contribute.

Letting Tennessee jump out to a big lead because we don't start with our best lineup dooms us to trying to play catch-up again.

It is unlikely to work against that quality of team.

Nah, I was replying to an earlier post and forgot to quote it. I was trying to say that I would not be surprised if Red continues to start Carlos. The change needs to happen. The only question is if Red can admit that his player evaluation was wrong.

It might even help Carlos if the pressure goes down a bit as a reserve.

He played 19 minutes as a starter against Cornell. Fans would probably be less annoyed about him if he played those same 19 minutes as a reserve.

Starters just get more spotlight and more pressure. Carlos came here to be a reserve, let him.

Can you imagine later in the season when we have a thread titled "The starting 5 is cooking?"

No?

No.
