Rickie Collins

I'm waiting for them to toss the ball to Villari who then throws a long pass. Wondering which game we save this one for.
or bring back the classic intentionally throwing it OOB on 4th down to stop the clock.

They might roll.him out a little and a few planned QB runs to keep them honest.

Maybe. They might also limited designed runs [I'm not talking about scrambles if nobody gets open] to minimize the potential for him taking hits. QB depth is a lot thinner than last week.

I actually expect that we'll see the offensive play calling be basically the same.

Crazy as that might sound.

Looking forward to tomorrow!
I think you're right. Nixon wants to throw the ball.

I won't be shocked if some safer options get featured more. For example, if Nixon and Villari end up with 15ish combined receptions on safe outlets to the RB and TE, I won't be shocked.

Agree. However, My hot take for Saturday though is that Rickie will be more of a dual threat QB than he's ever been or will be for the rest of the season. Rewatch every piece of media Fran and Nixon have put out this week. Slinging the ball, arm strength, offense not changing, going on and on about Rickie being a great passer.

With a Duke defense that sucks this is the perfect bait and switch for tomorrow which is the most Fran Brown thing to do. Have Rickie tuck the ball and run alot when Duke over pursues on blitzes or drops 8 into coverage
When you’re down to your second QB, and the third QB is a freshman, you don’t run your QB like crazy.

Somehow making a bowl game that year while also getting the coach fired was one of the stranger things I can remember
If we had a backup QB who could throw a forward pass, we would have beaten BC in 2023 and Dino would have kept his job(then again, maybe we lose to Wake since a bowl wouldn’t have been on the line)

Butterfly wings.

Things happen for a reason.
It was meant to happen that way.

It was kinda the best of the worst case scenarios , where we managed to get to a bowl, but still were underwhelming enough such that Dino (deservedly) got the axe.

And thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster that it did!!
It brought us Fran.

You could argue getting sacked is worse than designed runs where the QB can actually attempt to slide and protect himself. Unless your Achilles is about to go.

You'll see the highs and lows tmrw. Almost certainly we'll see his raw arm talent and just as likely he could throw 1-2 bad INTs. He'll settle in like Angeli did but I do expect an inconsistent first start.

Maybe.

Or maybe he'll be solid. I don't automatically expect this to be a CDRW-type of performance. We'll see what Rickie can do tomorrow.

I don’t know. Angeli was asked early on to make a lot of reads and passes against Tennessee on the road and then UConn gave us fits too cuz the line was a mess and we couldn’t run the ball.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but outside of QB1 I don’t think we had a single banged up guy on offense after last week which is unheard of after a trip to Clemson.

I'm relying principally to the bold portion. Our line seems to have really solidified since Tennessee... Hard to say if it's quality of competition or actual improvement. But, it's been said that Clemson had multiple future NFL players on their defensive line, and we came away pretty good.

More than that, Duke is averaging 153 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns allowed. I think we're going to be able to run against them, especially if Willis is healthy.

Of course, Duke's passing defense is even worse, allowing 70% completion percentage. They've gotten 10 sacks, though, half have come from one player.

I think only Colgate would have been a better team for Collins to get his first start against.

He throws a beautiful ball just has to add that touch.
