Rickie Collins

It’s just a feeling I have, and I think there will be an open QB competition, but Collins seems more like a depth piece. I think Williams is QB1 as of right now.
Collins isn’t a depth piece, he is a legit contender to start. Williams is a year ahead as far as being in the program already, so he has that advantage for sure, but Collins isn’t a depth acquisition, he is a high end guy who just hasn’t had a shot yet

There is a great video on his recruiting thread of him throwing down a massive dunk. It displays his incredible athleticism. My money is on him being named QB1 out of Fall Camp.

Last year, Fran had to bring in someone who could start. The roster makeup forced it; CDRW wasn’t it.

This year, Cuse has someone who they think could start, and Collins is also someone they obviously think could start.

Next year, if all goes well, they won’t need to bring in a transfer at all.

I’m all for this depth building thing!

He isn't in line to start.
CJ Carr vs Steve Angeli competing in the Spring. Carr was injured most of this year and Angeli looked very good as Leonard's backup this year. Or Portal Transfer

Is Carr related to Austin Carr the former ND basketball player?

Meh… I just disagree.. over under is 5 wins.
Fair but I would put it at 6. But really I think its really difficult to put any over/under on the season at this point. Too many unknowns, especially at QB which obviously plays a large roll in what happens.

The last 25 years of watching the program? Let me know who the next Barron, Wax, McCord, Dungey, Strickland, Guthrie, Lemon, Nassib, Sales, Shamarko, Pugh, Chibane, Goggins, Lemon, Vaughn are? would love to know.
That's the thing about college football... It isn't like any team is trying to replace Tom Brady after 20 years of being the best QB in the game.

Every single year, players get chances they hadn't had before, or players get way better as something in their game clicks, or sometimes guys just get that critical mass in the strength and conditioning program where they can suddenly do what is being asked of them.

I used the example of Diamond Ferri recently... As a highly recruited running back recruit, he was stuck on the bench two years, but nobody would have been shocked if he became a good running back as a junior... Instead he switched positions as a junior and made all league as a safety. He even got snaps in the NFL.

Nobody knows who's going to miraculously get better and fill critical roles for us. Fran Brown and his staff know better than us, but even they might be surprised.

One major clue is how not desperately they are pounding the portal right now. Not a whole lot of visits or offers to transfers right now... Whereas last season we got commitments almost every single day for a long time after the coaching staff arrived.

I’m glad someone gets it.

Not only do they have two guys they think can start, they also have another guy behind them that they think could maybe push to start this year as a true freshman.

If not, for sure as a sophomore and IF either Collins or Williams transfer they already have a second guy lined up for a competition to develop.

Honestly, what Fran is building is remarkable. But some unfortunately don’t have the patience to see it

Michigan and Washington went 6-6 in 2024, TCU went 5-7 in 2023. Very few teams can "keep it going" the year after a season where a lot of seniors lead the way.

I'd rather go 6-6 and figure out who the QB is for 2 or 3 years to come than go 8-4 and have to start over again at QB in 2026.

Yea who wants to go 8-4 if that means more offseason hustling. I think it’s crazy to base any strategy on players sticking around for multiple seasons. Try to assemble the best possible roster year in year out and if they want to run it back then it’s a bonus.

That's a suicidal strategy. Florida State in 2024 cannot be ignored - they tried to run it back via the portal and failed miserably. Playing the short-term every year is not sustainable; it's the mark of a desperate coach (either desperate to keep his job or move on to a new one).
