RIP Ben (Kirk Herbstreit's Dog)

May they one day meet on Rainbow Bridge.

i lost my dearest pal Gizmo three years ago to a sudden brain infection that literally ate away his brain.

I understand how Kirk feels. He understood me completely and loved me with his whole heart.
He was such a kind soul, loved by everyone who knew him.

We don't deserve the love dogs give us, it's amazing how much they give.
My heart breaks everytime one of mine have pass, never easy to deal with.
As someone mentioned above they have had dogs all their live as have I. Bred Norwegian Elkhounds for show, sale, and house dogs for ten years, had Buddy, an English Springer Spaniel for 17 years he used to swim across a lake with me just right for triathlon training and in August, I had to put Winsome, a dark Golden Female Retriever, down after 12 years together.

She was my best friend, we loved each other. I have her ashes next to me on a shelf next to my work desk. I miss her terribly and still say goodnight and I love you to her before I go to sleep in my bedroom where she slept on her bed next to me. It is still very hard without her here with me.

I have to share this story about General. General had the greatest dog life ever. Pampered her entire life. Anyway, I come home and sit in a chair between where General is sitting and the couch where my dad is. My father says Gen Gen, and General turns her head and looks the other way. She is giving my dad the cold shoulder. I look in amazement at my father and he says, she is mad at me. I yelled at her earlier. I will never forget it.

My youngest sister's youngest child is Downs. She routinely calls the extra chromosome in which he was born with is the special "love" chromosome that we don't possess. I think dogs must have it as well.

The story has really bummed me out all week. I had a bad feeling when he made his initial post. You can tell it’s the same on college gameday today. Grief is a real thing losing your companion as i recently (actually been a year somehow, but still feels recent) had to put my down.

Our beagle Polly is one of the greatest things that has ever happened to us. A great reminder to give our sweet girl extra belly rubs.
