RIP Bob Gibson

My brother has been a Cardinal fan since the 60's and he's lost both Brock and Gibson. it's tough to lose the heroes of your childhood.

You wonder how dominating a pitcher like Gibson would be if he was coddled like today's starting pitchers (6 good innings or 100 or so pitches).
Magical year in 1968: A microscopic 1.12 ERA, 13 shutouts, but somehow managed to lose 9 games in going 22-9. Run support may have been a problem.
In one 2 year stretch he pitched 56 complete games - Yowza.
After a pitching dominant 1968, MLB lowered the mound from 15 to 10 inches.
BTW he played one season with the Harlem Globetrotters. WTH

I remember having religious instruction after school that day, and my mother picking me up and having the game playing on the radio, and then getting home in time to watch Gibson set the record.
