This one hurts. A lifelong Jets fan, Don Maynard was one of my earliest football heroes. Long, tall, lanky, good hands and surprisingly fast. He was one of the skill players who helped raise the AFL to the level of the NFL. Humble and quiet-spoken, he was as old school as they come. All steak and no sizzle, just came every day, every play. First receiver to gain 10,000 yards in career receptions. RIP Don, you were indeed the genuine article.
