RIP John Madden

Madden and Summerall did a lot of Giants games over the years. They were the best.

I was thinking about him on Thanksgiving during the Cowboys game, and had googled to see how old he was. I loved the turkey leg and then the turducken obsession! He was a staple of that holiday for so many years.

I also wanted my own Madden bus.

"Don't worry about the horse being blind...just load the wagon."

When I was a little kid the Giants got Madden so often that I thought he was the Giants commentator…like Vin Scully for the Dodgers and Chick Hearn for the Lakers. Lol.

I can’t believe Madden was only 85. I always thought he was old as fck when I was growing up in the 90’s. I guess that’s what happens when you work in one sport for 50 years.

John out-lived the Cal Poly plane crash by 61 years, although it's interesting that that was not the cause of his fear of flying.

I'm always interested in reading old news articles to see how events were reported at the time they happened. This is an article when Madden retired from coaching at 42. He insisted at the time that he was never going to coach again and that seems hard to believe at 42. But obviously it turned out to be true and who would have guessed he would turn into the most famous football broadcaster ever.
