RIP Lou Carnesecca

I'll always remember him like this -

One of many colorful and iconic coaches of the old Big East. As an opposing coach, he was probably more likeable and appreciated by the fans than others like Big John.

Just thinking about Lou, brings back all those great memories of the original Big East. I just hope he realized how many people looked forward to his bringing St. Johns and his own colorful character to the Dome. And don't forget the sweaters!!

Is HCJB the last of the legendary Big East coaches alive?

He said "Legendary", not "Original".

Otherwise, I'd have to add Bill Raftery.
Okay, only two were legendary. Slick Rick and Calhoun. PJ basically had 1 year and Gary Williams most at B.C. have never heard of him.

They’ve never heard of Gary Williams who won a NC at Maryland? He had a very good run at BC so I would definitely challenge your statement on that.

Favorite Louie memory. Not sure of the year but I was no longer in the Manley Zoo, as I recall my vantage point being on the side of the court. I recall Mike Lee being in the game and we were the same year, so I'm guessing '1972-ish.

The Johnnies had run back on defense as we were walking the ball up. Louie actually runs out on the court and physically moves several guys around to where he wanted them on D and then scampers off. The refs swallow the whistle. I was upset at the time but now in hindsight it was hilarious.

He’s in the Hall of Fame

Yes! 1973. That was the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre! We upset them 80–70. Mike Lee fouled out and after the call, dropped kicked the ball into the stands. Our smart fans immediately passed the ball down to courtside and the refs were never the wiser.

I had to look up the final score on cuse.com. They show that the game was played in the John A. Lally Athletics Complex. What a crock.
