So sad. Way too young. Couldn't help but hope that leaving school his last year (regarding academics) was his choice vs only Doug Marrone's for football reasons.

IIRC, Cantey was one of the first highly rated recruits that GRob landed. I might have this wrong, but I believe that he was a 4-star who was garnering significant attention from Penn State.

What I recall most about his recruitment was that GRob went down to have a face-to-face meeting with Parker, after a football practice. Cantey got done with practice, excused himself after briefly meeting GRob upon stepping off of the practice field, and then went into the locker room to quickly shower / change into a suit before coming back to sit down with the coach.

GRob mentioned at the time how impressed he was with Cantey's professionalism, and how he never had a recruit show up in a suit before, and how taking the recruiting process so seriously reflected on his character as a leader / conscientious student-athlete.

I know that Cantey's career didn't go as well as hoped here [kid never could seem to add on weight needed to play LB], but this is sad news. 28 is way too young.

I met Parker at the Governor's Bowl game in 2006. He played in the game with one of my players. Nice kid, super athletic for a SS/LB. Sorry to hear this news.

I wasn't lucky enough to see him play in HS but I've heard he was an absolute Beast on the Gridiron. South Shore HS in Brooklyn was a Powerhouse PSAL program back in the day.
