Reading about Pele, I learned that he was an illeist. Those are people who refer to themselves in the 3rd person, such as Rickey Henderson's "Rickey be Rickey". Turns out a lot of famous people are illeists, or practice illeism. Turns out the word also doesn't follow the "i before e" rule.

Pele was slightly different because that was a nickname. He liked to use Pele as his athletic persona, and his real first name is Edson.
