RIP Rickey Henderson

Howard Bryant wrote a really good bio of Rickey. Highly, highly recommend:

Aw, man
One of my favorite players of all time in any sport.
Remember how small his strike zone was for a while?

Wonder how much Rickey could of made in todays game?

He would be valued more greatly today, because of the higher value today's analytics place on OBP (vs Avg) vs the 1980's. Also with the rise of the stolen base since the rule changes, he would be getting lots of steals too.

As crazy as it sounds he may be underrated in terms of the game's All-Time greats. At least in my circles his name rarely comes up and it should. He was awesome.
His 106.3 career WAR ranks him 17th among positions players at FanGraphs, right between Mike Schmidt and Frank Robinson. That’s damn good company.

On a recent episode of the Effectively Wild podcast, they were saying, based on his other offensive numbers, he would have been a hall of famer even if he never stole one base.
