RIP Robert Redford

I've only seen Butch Cassidy and ATPM. One of the remembrances I read yesterday mentioned that he wanted to play Benjamin Braddock in The Graduate but the director told him that audiences wouldn't buy him as a mopey dweeb. Sounds like even though people knew him as a classic leading man he only felt but so comfortable with that descriptor. Sounds like if he were 30 years younger he'd be Brad Pitt.
Here's a ranking of Redford's movies by Rotten Tomatoes. Gives you a little idea of what to expect if you decide to watch more. And you should.

Never heard of The Hot Rock. I like heist films may have to go find it.
Wasn't a great movie. Believe or not, it was featured in one of the handful of Mad Magazines I bought when I was a kid. According to this article, it was Oct 72 and it was 40 cents. I was 13 years old and somehow convinced my parents to give me 40 cents. Although, I might have taken it from my Bar Mitzvah fund.

That 40 cents would have contributed to a nice pen and pencil set.

I highly recommend 'The Candidate'. Redford plays a 'Bob Forehead'-style politician who stands for nothing save good looks.

When he gets elected, he asks his campaign manager, "What do I do now?"
