RIP to the SEC on CBS

this says buys the rights to the best game.. does that mean CBS could pick another game to do?

i thought before CBS could pick the one and the rest were fair game.. now ESPN gets the pick.. just not clear that means CBS is out of the business or swapping first pick or now CBS will be showing best of the Mountain west ?

CBS gets first pick every week and prevented SEC from putting any home games on ABC.
All SEC home games had to be on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, or SECN.

Now with Disney getting the tier 1 rights they will flood ABC Primetime with SEC games.
Put SEC games on ABC at 12 and 3:30 as well.

A couple of thoughts...

If by chance ND decides to join the ACC for football, wow, Disney controls an amazing amount of college football inventory.

Select ACC non-conference games on ESPN+? What?

The SEC, at least in CNY, has two linear channels. Does this mean the end of one of those channels? And if they are going to do this with the SEC, is it going to happen with the ACC as well down the road? Because that would be awful.

Does the SEC stream the volume of Olympic sports on WatchESPN (ACCNX) like the ACC does?

I assume CBS will replace the SEC with the next best available football content. The ACC is off the board. The B1G is off the board. I am thinking it will be a mix of the B12 and the Pac12. They might pick up some decent coin with this happening.

SEC non-conference games.

An element of the rights deal that will begin next season, ESPN+ will have the right to stream one non-conference football game and two non-conference men’s basketball games per SEC school each season. In total, ESPN+ will carry up to 14 non-conference football games and up to 20 non-conference men’s basketball games annually.

b12 has a ton of games on Abc/fox fs1 already and those contracts must run for awhile dont they?

Disney just gut shot the ACC. The ACC was always second fiddle to the SEC( all conferences are even the Big 10) but this assured this fact. Unless closer ties are developed and more cross over scheduling happens. Crazy numbers.

Tell Stewart Mandel Wake-Clemson doesn’t get ABC primetime unless the ACC was the only P5 conference playing conference games during week 2 in a pandemic.

The ACC announces its schedule after the SEC.
The ACC will put games on their schedule it’s spots the SEC won’t have as good a game.

Like Florida State at Clemson or Notre Dame road games.

Wrong.
Disney just destroyed the Big Ten’s leverage.

The Big Ten wanted big bucks from DIsney they didn’t get them so they went to Fox. The Big Ten coaches forced the commissioner to keep it aligned with Disney but they don’t that know because Disney won’t give the Big Ten the money they want.
Fox will likely get more of the Big Ten package. They only signed a 6 year deal. CBS could get into play for the Big Ten as well.

The ACC has its own network that Disney protects.
Disney paid big bucks because they want SEC games on ABC.

No, The SEC is the favorite and always will be. They will earn 40+ million more a year than ACC teams and get preferential time slots. To me if I was a member of the ACC I would be pissed they are committing that much to a conference you recruit against and compete with. That is just me. Maybe this is a great news, I doubt it.

The Big Ten is fine. Fox works for them now and NBC could come in.

The SEC was always going to make more money.
Disney protected the ACC stability by starting the ACCN.

They were never going to make close to the top money.

This move told the Big Ten we aren’t going to overpay you when your deal is up we will replace the Big Ten games with SEC games.

The Big Ten will still make a ton. So it is a race between the ACC, Big 12 and PAC to be third. But the ACC is protected by the mouse but at a really reduced rate.

The SEC is a whole different level.
