RIP to the SEC on CBS

And the ACC continues to fall further and further behind. I hate this conference...

It would be nice if the ACC Network could get carriage on some of the largest cable providers in the US. Amateur hour.

Wow this is an absolute kill shot to ACC. ACC games are rarely going to be on TV now I would assume because the SEC games are going to override it.

If CBS is smart they would jump on trying to negotiate giving up SEC ASAP but they get to buy the ACC games or something.

Either way, not good for the ACC IMO

This doesn’t impact the ACC that much.
ESPN already had all these SEC games except the top game that was on CBS that is going to shift from CBS to ABC.

ACC games will still be on ESPN, ESPN2, ABC each week.

It will never happen but I always liked the idea of each conference being tied to one major network. NBC and CBS don't seem all that interested though despite having all those networks and nothing to put on.

And now no ACC school minus clemson will ever get a 3:30 ABC slot

There are also 3:30 ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU slots.

Also if the ACC has good games they will get the ABC spot.
This move affects the Future of the Big Ten on Disney. They will move more to Fox and maybe CBS will get in on them.

I will bet you the SEC will take 3:30 of ABC ESPN and 2 with the ACC getting the U

How many SEC games do you think are top TV priority?
Alabama sure.
Florida/LSU/Georgia sure.

ESPN isn’t going to put Missouri at LSU on ABC or ESPN over good games from other conferences.

ESPN did this overpay because they want Florida-Georgia, LSU-Alabama, Alabama-Auburn every year.

South Carolina at Kentucky isn’t moving up the ladder.

This is all about Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida. Those teams make up the overwhelming majority of CBS SEC games.

A couple of thoughts...

{snip}

Select ACC non-conference games on ESPN+? What?

{snip}
Everyone's D-1AA game, e.g. SU v. Colgate; UVa v. VMI; Wake v. Wofford

Seems like the new ACC Commissioner would need to have a solid background in TV rights. Wonder who could fit that bill...

I agree. SEC of course has the big brand names that draw but they also as a whole have more schools ranked in the top 25 each year than the ACC.

ABC/ESPN will want to showcase the top 25 matchups and just looking at the math it shows that most weeks that’s going to be the SEC before you even start looking at featuring the brand names which also tips in SEC’s favor.

Hopefully the ACC has a good counter.

No offense but you should love this conference. You would never be guaranteed a final four spot in the SEC...Right now, it is pencil in Clemson from the ACC and see how ND, the SEC and the Big Ten shake out...

The ACC v SEC is david v goliath. There are many rungs to climb from here to there.

As long as Clemson keeps getting things done, the overall profile will continue to climb.

SEC on CBS was basically the reason I went to Alabama. Cuse was always bad during well almost my entire life so I adopted Alabama (before Saban mind you) because the SEC was clearly the best conference during that time and their games were awesome.

CBS gets first pick every week and prevented SEC from putting any home games on ABC.
All SEC home games had to be on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, or SECN.

Now with Disney getting the tier 1 rights they will flood ABC Primetime with SEC games.
Put SEC games on ABC at 12 and 3:30 as well.
As 9 of 14 SEC members are in CT and all ACC members are ET, we probably will see many ACC games on ABC at 12/11, should ABC decide to have a national double header each week. The SEC will own the 3:30/2:30 games on ABC.

ACC football quality is sound. The biases against ACC football remain in much of the media, which then reinforces them for CFB fans. But the quality is decent, and likely to improve.

If we thought we had a lot of noon games recently, I really don't see that situation improving with this new deal. Even if the team gets better there will just be too many high profile games to go around during prime time.
