Roberson's future

The evidence doesn't really indicate what you believe. While they play different positions and are physically very different players, their production in term of points and rebounds per 40 minutes this season is nearly identical. I would venture to say that if Coleman's productivity takes a step forward next season (not an unreasonable assumption) he could eclipse Roberson.

Those are eerily close actually.

And Coleman has it over him in blocks and steals. That really surprised me.

there's a big difference between banging down low for 30 minutes vs. 17 night after night. it takes a huge toll.
DC2 has worked hard but hasn't yet shown us that ability during his lengthy stay on the hill.

Honestly, I'd be happy if Coleman came back to be depth behind Chukwu and Roberson moves on. If it leaves a hole, so be it. Lydon can play the 4 or we can bring in a grad transfer or another PF.

Roberson just doesn't fit, anywhere. He doesn't have a jump shot and isn't tall enough to be an effective 4. He shows flashes but then plays awful for 4 games. Maybe just play him against Duke?.. I don't know.

Of course 30 minutes of that production is more valuable than 17. But Coleman's minutes and effectiveness may be on the rise next season, while Roberson may be going in the other direction. We shall see. Oh, and I wouldn't characterize what Roberson does as "banging."

And his rebounding prowess vs. Duke this year isn't that monumental, when you consider Duke routinely gets owned on the glass.

He did set a Cameron record for rebounds by an opponent in that game, so it was indeed monumental. At least give the kid his due for that.

"Prowess." Still, two other guys had 20 boards against Duke this year, just not in their gym. It was a great performance against a team that doesn't rebound well at all.

Auguste had 22 rebounds against Duke as well today. They might be the worst rebounding team in the ACC. Notre dame owns Duke. Theyve won the last four against Duke and 5 out of 6.

He's had other huge rebounding games, so it wasn't all the competition. That's all I say.

I guess Duke better consider switching out of it's M2M defense playing against ND (sarcasm font)

True but the accolades of his vs Duke probably should really be tempered.

Sounds like at least according to JB he wasn't where he was supposed to be on the last play. Someone wasn't and I doubt it was cooney

It was definitelly Cooney!!! He ended up with the ball :)

Robe should come back, start and be focused on being a rebounding and put back machine. that's his skill and that's what he can make a living on. it would also be great if he spent the summer working on a 5-8 jump shot and 2 decent low post moves

if we had a more creative offense, I'd like to do some things with him like put him in the high post occasionally, not sure if he could make the passes though. doesn't matter, we don't do that anyway (Lydon would be flat out ideal for that role btw) I'd also use him to set low screens for TL

he'll be pressed for PT from Moyer from behind and Lydon playing 4 when we run Frankie, Battle and Mal together, which I expect us to do with Chuckwu alot

I think at least on the offensive side he's been set up to fail. What are the reasons he's on the outside setting up the pick and roll? Why is he screening when he's our only consistent rebounder? How many rebounds would he have gotten if he wasn't standing at the three point line after a screen? How many putbacks?

It's not just Roberson but other players as well, we don't coach a lot of these guys to their strengths which I believe is hurting this team now and the past couple of years. I'm not in the HOF so maybe I'm just clueless and have no idea.

What can you do with him on offense? He has zero jump shot. No post moves. He finishes ok at the rim, but misses plenty for a guy his size. I expect Lydon to play the three next year, but if he doesn't Lydon is better at passing, shooting, finishing, blocking shots, and the rebounding difference isn't huge. He's athletic, but I just don't see the skills.

roberson shouldn't have to score. he's playing with (g),cooney, malachi and lydon. they're all scorers.
tyler has to rebound ! which he has proven for 2 seasons is something he does very well.

Some good points here. Why the hell IS he screening so much if his only requirement is to rebound?! Half of the time he can't even get to the ball since we jack up threes shortly after he screens far away from the basket.

have you seen the rock ,paper , scissor video by android ? off topic but very clever.

A player with Roberson's skill set is wasted in this system. He spends his entire time on the court running back and forth setting useless ball screens. There's no threat of him scoring there. He should be working to get position inside, make cuts or pop to the FT line occasionally, basically remaining around the paint to work the O glass. On D, he's just not a good zone defender and I don't see that changing. He just seems to lack concentration or understanding of the spacing.

He'd be much better in a more free flowing, wide open system, and probably one that involves more pressure defensively.
agree. if you watch his senior highlight film, yes i know its a highlight film, you would see a different player, hitting multiple jumpers in the lane and from 3pt line. He actually seems to have a pretty soft touch, just must be under a pretty tight leash, unlike Cooney who can go 2-12, but must make a lot in practice so its cool
