Philadelphia Art Museum approves the move of Joe Frazier statue to base of steps​

The Rocky statue that has stood at the base of the steps for decades is being moved to the top of the steps, where a replica statue owned by Sylvester Stallone currently stands.​

The Philadelphia Art Commission gave unanimous final approval on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2026, to move the Joe Frazier statue currently standing outside Stateside Live to the base of the steps at the Philadelphia Art Museum.​

The Frazier statue will arrive at its new home in the spring and will take the place of the Rocky statue, which is being moved to the top of the steps.

The statue honoring legendary Philly boxer, “Smokin” Joe Frazier will have a new home.

The Philadelphia Art Commission and @CreativePHL are moving forward with plans to relocate the statue to the base of the @philaartmuseum steps.

The statue will be in place during Spring 2026.

I don't know which location is better but I do know more people know of Rocky than know of Joe Frazier.

About 20 years ago I was having a rough day at work and told a couple younger office mates that I felt like I just went 15 rounds with Joe Frazier. They had no clue who I was talking about. But, I'm pretty sure they would know of Rocky.
