Rolling the ball to half court?

Does anyone know the rule on this? I always thought you have 5 seconds to get the ball in the hands of an offensive player. I've noticed a trend of whoever is bringing the ball up the floor will let the ball roll to half court, isn't this a 5 second violation?

you have 5 seconds to release the ball (i.e., pass it in) - doesn't matter when it's picked up

that was the old rule. Now, as Billjay said, just release the ball.
