his reasoning is essentially the following. "I've seen Ohio St., Kentucky and North Carolina play several times. I've seen Syracuse once, on TV vs Florida. and my opinion is that the other three are clearly a decided step ahead of everyone else, and I don't think I'm alone in that thinking."
He also goes on to say that its really not that big a deal and that the polls are meaningless...and he is right about that.
However, he also has to understand that by being the only voter to have syracuse lower than #2, he's putting a bullseye on his head for Syracuse fans.
I have two issues with his thinking. 1. He's essentially saying. "I've seen enough to form my opinion, and I ain't changing it." If that's the case, then turn in a poll the first week of the season and jsut keep turning in the same poll everyweek...and if that's the case, then lets just take your vote away from you."
Secondly,he's right in that I think there are other people in the country who think there is a clear separation after those three schools...but they managed to still vote Syracuse #1 or #2, because, and this is why people are pissed, THEY'VE EARNED IT.
He goes on to say that really, this is the difference between the basketball poll vs the football poll, in that it means much less. but what he missing is that one of the reasons why people get pissed about the football poll is because some idiots don't reward teams that have earned the right to move up in the poll. Its the whole crux of the argument against the football poll...some people arbitrarily determine who the most talented teams are in the country, and even if you go undefeated...you might be left out because the perception is that teams that have lost are still better, because they pass the eye test.
Okay, rant over.
