Roster Balance Next Year...

Bees said: "What you saw vs. OSU is what BT is best at, with the ball in his hands. He is not good at standing on the wing waiting for a pass that may never come. He also isn't a Rautins come around a screen type shooter, which we didn't run much of anyways." (my views on Triche and others follow)

JB has noted many times that he expects Triche to be the man next year. There are several reasons for this and I am not ducking the issues now:
1. Triche will be the senior on the team and we know what that means to JB
2. Triche for whatever reason deferred to Scoop and others--I think it was to keep team chemistry--there were a number of games that Triche was hot and then never got the ball from Scoop and KJ...I know I mentioned this often but most thought i was just a Triche guy...no I am not...I am a 'Cuse guy
3. Triche has always been better with the ball in his hands and passing and making the decision to shoot or not. When he goes to the wing and waits for the ball...that never came his way even with hands flopping for the pass...was a waste of talent...MCW will share PG and shooting guard with Triche and play off of each other. In the few games they were in together I thought team passing was much better than with Scoop pounding the floor...note Scoop is more creative than Triche and more likely to make a sensational play or a Scoopid play.
4. Defensively, Triche and MCW will be more active than Scoop...who at times took defensive time outs
5. CJ will be a better 3 than KJ...better shooter from 12-15 feet and a good driver with a better handle; watch out for Grant who I believe will be the best 3 since Wes...Grant and Fair board better than KJ whose overall play and rebounding regressed this year.
6. DC2 plays with back to rim and has good post moves. Ketia, Christmas and Noel(if he shows) do not have low post offense aside from dunking. Keita had 11 boards against OSU and if he could gain 15 pounds of muscle he would be terrific...and Xmas has the size just needs the ability to go after the ball on boards.

I know this may be hard to believe, but I am looking for this team to be better than this year...so allthough grateful for what Scoop, KJ and Waiters did for us this year, I beleive that the team coming together for next season will overall be stronger, better, and more cohesive. If Cooney can truly hit the 3 and dirty continues to improve, #s 6 and 7 will be as good as this year and #8 and #9 big men will be better...prediction: 16-2 BE, winner BET and NC.

Sigh... just because a player is white does not mean he's gritty. Cooney can dunk and drive. He's very athletic. He's not a 5'6'' guard that wouldn't be on the court if he didn't spend every waking hour in the gym.
and you know that I said that because he is white, how? I know a lot more about him than the color of his skin, thanks.

is he "gutty" though?

Damn bnoro, you beat me to it.

It's as if he took every white basketball player cliche and pasted it into his post.

Because no one's ever described a non-white player as "gritty". Aaron Craft is "gritty". David Eckstein and Dustin Pedroia are "gritty".

Was Eric Devendorf gritty? Because Cooney is more of a Devendorf than an Aaron Craft.

or they could be true, and you folks added the stereotype element. Glad to see the shallow fish are feeding today.

I don't think you're racist. Just thought it was funny.

bottom line the guards are just too thin if dion leaves. three is not enuf imo . mcw is raw, cooney untested and after some 100+ starts i think it's fair to say that triche is triche. he's peaked. decent enuf backcourt if all three were available every minute every game next season.but sh%t happens and unfortunately and we are a spinning galactic sh%t magnet recently. honestly who here foretold us all last sept. of the melo mess????NOBODY!!! whatabout injuries? foul trouble? 3 serviceable guards is just way too thin if dion leaves and something else happens . grab somebody once dion declares .transfer, late signee anybody who can give us good minutes if we need them.

please refresh my memory. who was our fourth guard in 2010 when we were a 1 seed?

you wanna roll those dice?? i'm saying if someone gets hurt this summer (rautins) or somebody gets suspended or leaves (take your friggin' pick) or throws an elbow we are down to JUST TWO!
(also triche, rautins, scoop, mookie and reese when we needed him )

Mookie's coming back next year. That's a 4th guard.

And I'd be ok rolling those dice, if someone got hurt, i think CJ/Grant could play a 2 if they had to.

i'll climb a limb and guarantee mookie never wears orange again.

IMO as far as depth we only have 2 possible weaknesses.
Only three guards, and the bigs depend on Dajuan giving us atleast 12 mintues, Noel being elgible, or both.

What we will have while people look for concerns is great balence.

1.Brandon will make a awsome off guard. He is getting into the lane much better as a offguard. Dion would attack the paint and try to get to the rim usually. Brandon is more concentrated on midrange pull ups then Dion and his dish game is coming along better.

2.CJ is finally going to be posting up and rebounding as a three instead of a four. That will play to his advantage. We all know what he can do.

3. MCW is a awesome passer. He can hit a 2 foot target from 30 feet out and attack the lane. We all saw what he did to St Johns.
A passer of that calliber equals points. He will score off the dribble.

4. DC if he isn't a defensive liability will give us post points.

5. James will probably better his game some in the offseason. Hit the weights James Hit the weights! You have to good of a jumpshot to not post up and hit some in the high post or knock them down off of one or two dribbles like Fair.

6. Cooney can hit the long ball nicely he just needs to show he can get open. He practiced against Dion and MCW's Defense last year.

7. Rak should add alitte to his offensive game.

-The tandem of MCW and Triche is going to roll over people. Watch and see.

-Fair Southerland and Grant will give us some mintues in a small lineup together I think. Even if its less then 10 mpg and Noel is elgible.
Depends how DC and Rak kill it on offense. Noel will be a 30mpg kind of guy.

- We should be a better three point shooting team next year and MCW might surprise people.

-This team will probably be able to spread the floor more with Cooney and Southerlands shooting ability. They also will be able to bump well in the post on offense to get guys open.

- We have bench scoring.

-Expect better rebounding and we won't turn the ball over to much.

I expect us to be a well oiled offensive machine.

I'll bet you 10,000 dollars that this lineup never, ever, sees the floor next year. Ludicrous thought.
