This should be an 8.5 man rotation max when Betsey comes back. The Zephir minutes befuddle me. He's not a threat. Yes, he plays hard, but he can't be in during closing time. Souare is the .5. He was in too long yesterday. Zero threat offensively. He's a poor mans Baye Keita. Kyle is a lob threat when he’s in and dunks everything.

When Betsey is back next week we really need to look at Kingz playing the 2 in order to get our best shooters in. Especially at the FT line. Between Kiyan and JJ I would just play the hot hand. Kingz is twice the defender compared to both of them.

Closing we need to go with George, Kingz, Betsey, Donnie and whoever you're comfortable passing the ball in bounds.

Accurate. So really down the stretch of the game we're down to 6 in the stretch last night. Sadiq and Betsey were out, Suaore didn't have it.

So now you're picking between JJ and Kiyan and both of them looked like lost puppy dogs late.

Not a clue why Zephir plays.

Because he is by far our best defensive guard. Defense will always get you on the floor. He’s our only true backup point guard. I think it’s best to let the coach decide who gets on the floor based on what he sees everyday in practice.
He was not great last night. And there’s no reason we can’t play Kingz and George in the backcourt especially when Betsey comes back. George should be a 35mpg player.

he should really not be on the floor in games that matter unless we are up or down big. He’s so bad offensively that the defense gets more than canceled out. No way Fennell, who actually has promise, should get no minutes and Zephir plays. Just no way

Completely false statement. That would be Luke Fennel. And I'm sorry ...Zephir is not even a PG...perhaps a hybrid of a 1,2 and 3...nobody even knows what he is ...wearing number 55 lol

The best option for this team is don't wear out George try to keep him at 28 or 29 minutes give the other minutes to Luke.
Kiyan should get the most minutes at 2 guard, JJ will be a problem all year and probably will end up getting Red fired.
He is probably a very nice person, but not good enough to play at the level we need.
With him in the game the defense is terrible, and will stay that way.

Agree

Kiyan and Kingz >>>>>> Starling

It's not complicated

Sometimes these things are only noticeable from a distance and may not be so noticeable up close with coaching staff

I think there's a fair question as to what's more important, the offensive upside of George playing a lot of minutes vs high intensity defensive team effort for 40 minutes.

There's a strong case to be made that George is the straw that stirs the drink and we should have him out there for +35 minutes a game.

On the other hand, we can't expect him to play a hounding defense for all of those minutes, and that kind of defense only works if everybody is locked in on doing it.

Not sure what the right call is. My comfort level is probably having George on the floor. But if our defensive potential is a real competitive advantage it's hard to say we don't want to maintain that and keep everyone, George included, to reasonable minutes.

As I stated JJ is probably a great person , but he was also the star of the worst Syracuse team in 40 plus years. So for me he doesn't get a pass to play a lot. He has to prove he can play the pressing and trapping defense without hurting the team.
He also has to be able to play within the offense, get the ball to open shooters, and score when needed.
Unless he does he shouldn't play except maybe 15 at the most minutes off the bench.
It's more important for this team to make the tournament then to satisfy JJ by playing him a lot.

I'd give Red a chance to integrate JJ back into the rotation, whether that is ultimately a large role in terms of minutes or a somewhat lesser one. It will require significant effort and adjustment on the part of JJ and his teammates, as well as Red, of course. Given the upcoming schedule, this is not the ideal time to be dealing with this, but that's the hand that has been dealt.

This is the coach who thought Carlos deserved 30 minutes at PG… he’s proven nothing to make him immune to criticism

Kiyan looks like a lost puppy dog as of late? What have you been watching?? Last night was his first down game. I thought he took good shots and ones that have been dropping for him the last 3 games. They didn't fall for him last night, that happens. Good news is that he didn't start forcing shots. I would start Kiyan at the 2 without hesitation.

A Week to prep for Houston and Kansas. Get a few takeaways from last night then forget it. If the refs call a game like in Vegas on national TV, even the betting sites are going to call the FBI to say there’s a problem.

The thing people don’t want to hear is that we are prob going to hit Houston with 10 guys and throw as many guys at them as possible the first day. Its going to be frustrating seeing random rotations again and it’s going to be messy.

People are going to be even more upset seeing Zephir or Fennel or Suare in against Houston caliber players that outmatch them.

My personal take is that It may be the best option overall in Vegas to steal wins the next two nights though.

Us fans may want to see George/Kiyan/Kingz/Donnie/Kyle and White
go 35 mins a piece against Houston but then what the next 2 nights when these guys are exhausted and beat up and have to play a ton of mins the next 2 days and then against Tennessee a few days later at home.

You can say thats a defeatist gameplan against Houston but there’s also something to what we were doing in our blowout wins. Theres No prizes for playing Houston to a 5 point loss then getting blown off the court the next 3 games.

The better option may be to take a beating to Houston game 1 then have something left in the tank to handle Kansas and Game 3 and be on a winning streak to handle Tennessee at the dome.

To his credit, I was very impressed that JJ didn’t force things, take low percentage shots. I thought he played much better defense yesterday than in the past as a whole. Credit to him for not trying to “make up for lost time” which is what I feared

Yeah, Kiyan just didn't hit his foul shots and had the one rough trip where he got like 3 chances in close and didn't convert. He makes one more free throw and gets one of those bunnies to drop and he looks like he had a much better game.

I was shocked how physical Monmouth was allowed to be with Kiyan. In a game where the refs blew the whistle a ton, they let Kiyan get steamrolled on offense three times, and then didn't give him the whistle when he took one of the most obvious charges I've ever seen.

It was weird.

I agree. I was also happy to see that. In addition, the very first shot in the game was EXACTLY what he should do driving to the basket for an easy basket, but unfortunately missed it.

He's also leading the country in 3pt shooting!! 😁

I must be going crazy with this Zephir stuff. Is he a star? No.

But he has absolutely not been a negative on the floor at any point this season. He’s never been the reason the other team has gonna on a run. Heck, in one of the games where we were like 0-10 from 3, he was the one to make one.

To say he shouldn’t be able to get 5 minutes is absurd.
