8-3 being 55th in yards per pass, 129th in yards per rush, 50th in yards per pass defense, and 118th in rushing defense

Why are we 8-3? We throw 60% of the time and our opponents throw 50% of the time

Don't run and don't stop the run makes more sense. Would be best to be good at everything of course but throw decent and throw a lot is a recipe for being pretty good

If we can sustain our 3rd and 4th down play, then sure. IMO a lot of that success has to do with #6, who won't be here next year.

We go for it on 4th down 2.7 times per FBS game and convert 1.9 per game. We are tied for 5th nationally with 15.9 3rd downs per game and are 10th nationally on conversion %.

So in total those 159 times (we face a lot of these) our drive was about to end on downs, we extended the drive 95 times or 59.75% of the time. Can we realistically keep that going?

Also if you cannot stop the run you have games like BC every year. We shouldn't lose games like that.

See No. 6

In the history of the game the play profile of this team is so far out of the norm as to be almost unique. If it can be replicated without McCord I’d be pleasantly shocked.

You won't go undefeated this way, I agree. But bc was just a clunker throwing the ball, typical passing gives us a chance in a shootout

McCord is not really much different on 3rd down than any other down. We are 40th in passer rating on third down (1st in attempts)- we are also 40th on first down (2nd in attempts) 81st on second down (first in attempts)

We are 101st in 3rd and ten+, it's not like we are great situationally. 58th in 3rd and 7-9 to go. 57th in 3rd and 4-6 to go

We are 81st in passer rating on second down and first in attempts on second down

There is no situation where we excel other than 3rd and 1-3 to go where we are 16th best and throw the most.

90% of this is just throwing a lot

McCord's per pass performance both overall and in almost every situational stat is not exceptional

It's all volume. The volume comes from passing being better than running which gives you more first downs

Cumulatively it is exceptional. I agree it is a function of volume, but that fact he’s only thrown 7 picks in games not against Pitt is absurd.

It’s not like this is sink and dunk west coast and it isn’t art briles spread.

This is unique in college

I am not going to complain because they throw so much but I do worry a little about this kitchen sink pro style approach. McCord might be unusually smart and might be masking problems with that pro style approach long term

Bingo

I'm hoping that Williams has paid a lot of attention to the things McCord does on and off the field.

Also, I'm curious on how much of a role Nunzio has in this success. He's a key factor on how well this develops if all things remain the same.
