Run/Pass by Down and Quarter

One interesting aspect of the FSU game was that we passed 55% or the time and only ran 45%.
This is the opposite of what I had expected given FSU's mediocre run defense and two new QB's for us.
FSU started out with 6 in the box and we opened up by running 86% of the time on first down. We ran ZERO pct on third down in the Q1.

FSU came out of its 5 DB defense in Q2 and we responded by throwing more and more as the game progressed.

I think this may give the first clue as to the differences between Lester and McDonald - Lester, with his QB's eye, may read defenses better. Will be interesting to watch going forward.

Watch a lot of college football and I can count the number of times I have seen 6 in the box defensively on one hand for prolonged period. Their defensive gameplan confused the crap out of me. My guess is it b/c they thought their DL could win 1 on 1 v our OL and they didn't.

With that said, my football IQ isn't that high, but even I know to run the ball against 6 in the box. Not sure if much can be read by that b/c I don't think we will see 6 in the box for another couple of years on 1st down.

You think so? They have a lot of depth at LB and their best is a stand-up pass rusher (Beasley).

For me, that means they would do a 3-3-5. Can't see that happening.

I think FSU's gameplan was awful and no team will be copying that, especially with game tape now out on Long and Wilson.
