We still do a lot of things the Boeheim way

The game has changed and the requirements to be a successful program have evolved while we sit in stasis from twenty years ago
JB didn’t see the value in body building. I suspect he has tainted the attitude of the whole program with this indifference.

You’d think watching Etan Thomas and Jason Hart dominate after making Billy Packer’s “all uniform team” would have changed JB’s mind a little bit… But nope.

Hopefully we can get away from the 'long, lean forwards' that everyone said, for many years, was the key to our success - you know, back when we were a perennial top 20 team.

I don't get this at all, because Etan Thomas went from a guy who would foul out in 5 minutes as a freshman, to being an elite shot blocker and decade long NBA player after he muscled up.

Coleman was much bigger as a senior than as a frosh, too. Maybe that was just natural growth and 'filling out'. Seikaly, too, went from a stringbean to a strong guy in the low block.

I lean toward the thought that it was natural filling out for those guys. During the Seikaly/Coleman era lifting hadn't really hit it's stride in basketball yet. What's been frustrating is as it has, we didn't seem to keep pace. If guys were naturally big and strong, great, but most bodies weren't going to change much unless the players took the initiative.

He does. used to train my son. amazing guy and not afraid to get on kids. a bitold school which i love
My son worked with him too in the early 2000’s. It was called Strength in Motion or something like that.

Yes up on onondaga by college then over in east syracuse next to Ricco's.
Former SU S&C coach Mike Gerber was involved too - at least he was at the Onondaga hill facility for a while with Corey Parker.

I’m always an optimist in June and the last few seasons especially it’s been about that this is the season we get out of the 14-20 win seasons, mediocrity level. A lot is working in Syracuse’s favor. With the hires made and the roster construction. If we make a HUGE leap this season, Autry will not only keep his job, but actually set the program up for atleast the next half a decade. We have a lot of guys on this roster that can be NBA players with the right development and conditioning. That’s really the truth. It’s make it or break it in a major way this season!

Yep for jobs like this need to keep things fresh and have hired guns and raise the performance bar vs treating the position with complacency.

We all love Cal and UK now that we got this guy? Is that where we landed?

Just want to check in on who we hate / who we like now.

JK.

All joking aside, glad they are trying something different. Assuming SU and co have done their job vetting his background on the incidents noted.

Will Hicks. Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a looong time.

Yeah, getting the players bought-in is more than half the battle. Once you get a handful of guys committed to the regimen, it gets contagious and you wind up with ripped...

Donnie Freeman will be a good litmus test for Harris... He is the protypical skilled big in need of strength and weight gain.

Freeman has come a long way on his own. Part of his rise up the recruiting rankings was his physique going from “skinny tall kid” to “athletic build.” Over the 12 months before arriving at Syracuse, he changed a lot.
