Sabonis was open all night against Utah

It’s a difficult matchup. He could foul Coleman out in the first 10 minutes of the game. We’ll have to have back side help to block his shots which will leave the 3 point line open.

Then we got to our secret weapon: Obokoh!

Poeltl's disappearance was the key to that (Sabonis' success vs. Utah), based on what I saw in that game. Either way, there will be no surprises. Each team has several days to prepare and will see a lot of "film." They're actually pretty evenly matched, albeit with different strengths. We know about Sabonis and Wiltjer, they know about G and Lydon. In that case, the team that plays better wins it. Easy, huh? It ain't rocket science. And as I said before, if either Cooney or Dranginis goes off, it might be the game breaker. If they both do, it's gonna be some fun. :)

This.

Lydon is our best shot against him. He's got way more quickness than Sabonis. He'll make those moves and Lydon has the best shot at recovering. Not to mention making him work on D.
Except we all know how the refs treat so-called stars in the tournament. Any body contact will automatically be a Lydon foul. Can't have him sitting in a game like this.

I'll take my chances and let him score 30 points in the paint. If we're going to concede something, I'd rather they convert 2's instead of 3's.

Obokoh, Obokoh, he's our man!
If he can't do it, nooooooooooooobody can!

I was actually going to post this, until I saw others had the same idea. But now I'm posting it anyway because of your great segue.

As I've said in a different thread, other the W as a three-point threat, the guards are not going to pose much of a scoring threat, so expect JB to pack the zone, especially the wings, in order to help DC down low. Sabonis will eat him up without help.

I predict Coleman has a great game defensively
I couldn't disagree more. If Sabonis gets it in the low block, DC might as well just get out of the way to avoid the and-1. DC is not a shot-blocker and he's not quick afoot. Lydon would fare better on the initial shot but would be at risk of foul trouble in a game where we'll need to counter with his offense.

Best bet: concede the foul line jumper, but try like hell to deny him the entry pass.

Where've you been since last weekend?

Allergic to the positive vibes on the forum after a pair of blowout NCAA wins?

Sabonis is really good I think. I feel like his footwork and positioning is so good he makes it look like people are letting him do whatever he wants. Do we know if they have seen a zone this year? I would love to watch that tape. My biggest fear is we focus too much on Sabonis and some of their guards get opening looks outside of Wiltjer. We cannot let them get going.

Based on their board, they 've seen some zone in the WCC.

But what your saying is exactly what in was getting at earlier 're: 2009. IIRC the talk was all about making sure that the only one who really hurt us was Blake Griffin.

Obviously that didn't happen.

watch the first half of the utah game. sabonis scored but only made 2 decent moves the whole half. got a couple put backs and for all his great footwork, its much easier when the dont call the travel. the utah kid was unstoppable but utah only threw him the ball 3 times in the half and he got the SU pick foul while Gonz which set illegal screens all game never got it called. you cant run at him when he is out side but then when he has made 5 all year make him shoot it first.

I think it's easy to say Sabonis will eat us alive, but he plays the majority of time against man-to-man.

Don't underestimate this team seeing the 2-3 zone for the first time. We just can't let him or Wiltjer get comfortable at the elbow area. If they get comfortable and start knocking down that shot, then we're in major trouble I think.

Which is why "conceding" big production is rarely a winning strategy. It's also a false dichotomy.

Play good defense, period. Rebound the ball, period. I don't want to see Sabonis get anywhere close to 30. If he does, we're going to lose.

I'm surprised we've seen so little of Chino this year. I know he has no offense but seems like he could offer up some defense. And if he was paired with Lydon at the 4, there could be enough offense.
I know JB wouldn't want him in in crunch time but I thought we might see Chino in the first half of games to alleviate any later concerns of foul trouble.
Since we didn't see him this year, I don't ever expect to see him. Not with 7'2" as an addition next year.

ding, ding, ding. We have a winner

Looks like he made a thread stating how great it was we made the Sweet 16 and we will have more buzz next year. But no one responded because that doesn't fit the narrative.
