I think the NFL is so unpredictable that turnovers -- lucky or forced -- are almost always a difference between the 'good' teams and the 'bad' teams. That's not to say there aren't some pretty good teams out there but a huge percentage of the league is in the category of somewhere in the neighborhood of .500 to start the season and the teams that force/get lucky with turnovers end up with 10 wins and the teams that don't fall to that 6-10/7-9 season with a bunch of close losses. I thought the other nice thing Sunday was how they played after getting the big lead (27-7). They gave up a TD but at least made the Raiders take a bit of time (4+ minutes) and forced them to run 9 plays. Not great defense, but a desperate team throwing every down always tends to come up with a TD at some point. The Bills then got it back and took nearly 6 mins. off the clock before punting it away from Raiders territory. That essentially ends much hope of a Raiders comeback, but to close it out, they stop the Raiders on three straight plays at midfield, break Shady free for the score and then come up with the last pick. Finishing games hasn't been a thing in buffalo for a long time and it seems like this team is tough to completely put away, and seems to do a nice job finishing out wins: NYJ -- Forced a 3-and-out; got the ball and took 2+mins and all three jets TOs on the next drive; then picked the Jets off to end it DEN -- Interception; 16-play 7+ min drive and FG; defensive stop to end it ATL -- After the Falcons tie it on a long drive, Bills go long FG; get an INT; long FG (to force the Falcons to score a TD) and eventually get a stop. That's four (if you include the Raiders game) times they've played really solid football to close out a win. Tampa was some luck, but they also must feel like they could very easily have won either the Carolina game or the Cincy game so I feel like those sort of even out. Anyway, been fun to watch so far and I'd agree, they are pretty close to house money time. Have to feel good about McDermott.
