Warning, this will make you mad.

Cooney as a freshman in the Final Four in the waning seconds vs Michigan:

Some guys either have it in crunch time or they don't. Cooney will forever be remember for never being able to hit the game winning shot. He's the anti-GMac.

What a terrible dribbler for a guard.

at least back then he tried to get close before "shooting"

Arguably the most unclutch player in Syracuse history based on the number of minutes he played in his SU career.

Warning, this will make you mad.

I said that in another thread lol.

Alternative viewpoint . . . while I am disappointed and frustrated too, the kid gave it his all, for the team, for four years (actually five counting his red-shirt freshman year.) Thanks for the memories Trevor, the good, the bad and yes, even the ugly. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

God I forget about that triche charge call. And the MCW charge call. And thankfully that last fifteen seconds.

WOW, I forgot how bad that shot was with JS and CJ on floor and that's the shot Cooney takes

Sadly, that is probably the first thing I will remember when someone says Trevor Cooney.

It's like this board's version of chain smoking.

It's also like JB has nothing to do with any of these plays. JB is infamous for punishing players who disobey him.

So after this evidence is brought up, what is the problem with him taking an open 3 the last game? If he pulled this move off driving there would have more outrage.

There was nothing wrong with the shot he took with the play "drawn" up and the circumstances around it.

So who is next year's whipping player who fans will constantly harass?
It seems like lately our shooting or combo guards have been the biggest lightning rods. Not good news for Malichi.

I think the outrage is more that our season (potentially) ended with him taking the last shots (Fla State, Pitt). He always misses...and VERY badly. The outrage would have come no matter which shot he missed. Fair, not fair...who knows.

Howard. Howard probably identifies closest to having a street game. It's going to reverse the sides though...like Scoop vs. Triche (Part 2). Except this time the "Cooney haters" will be the ones trucking along on the moral high road! It's a roller coaster!!! Unless Howard is super-good next year.

Coleman has too much going for him. Local, sympathy, not much street in him. Good back story.

Roberson is too quiet. People will just agree he's frustrating.

Neither one is an ideal whipping boy.

Richardson will be fine. Lydon too. They don't have the "it" to make them lightning rods.

The crazy thing about that game [from being there live] was how poorly we played throughout as a team. This was supposed to be a showdown for MCW [who was nominally our star] against Burke, and MCW was awful. Southerland went in for a dunk in the first half and got blocked from behind, and then was tentative the entire game. He scored only 5 points, all of which came in the last 1:30 [he might have had 7 for the game, could be wrong about that].

The only ones who showed up were CJ [who had like 25], Triche [who had ~8 assists] and Grant, who had something like 7 rebounds in 20 minutes.

And despite how lousy we played, we were right there at the end. Got hosed on a couple of calls, which didn't help matters, but if we'd only played a little better...

If only we'd gotten a few more points / contributions from MCW and Southerland...

Huge missed opportunity.

Ugh.

I literally cannot remember Cooney hitting a game winning/tying shot at the end of a game. There are definitely more than a few I remember him clanking.

Hell, I can remember Terrence Roberts hitting a game winning shot in his career.

Makes me miss a lead guard like GMac. I can remember at least 4 or 5 game winning/clutch shots he made over his career. Cooney is the anti-GMac when it comes to clutch shots.

Isn't there a Youtube video where you can watch a broadcast Bilas did of that game? Not sure why he did one, maybe for the Armed Forces Network, or radio and they dubbed it over the game?? If I remember correctly he is far more critical of the officiating, but at the very least he's much more assertive about how bad the Triche call was compared to the CBS guys.

I can remember Paul Harris making late game free throw he was supposed to miss ;) Boeheim was livid!
