San Diego State Aztecs to the Big East?

Their AD seems to think it's a possibility that the Big East will dip into SoCal to invite them.

And why not?

Oh Lord

It would be a dumb move by BE IMO. Navy, SMU, HOU, UMass, FIU, UCF, Temple (if no Nova), and Colorado State (if Air Force says no) are all in better markets and offer just as much in FB. So even if the BE did go to 14 in FB, I don't see SD St making the cut.

Dam it. We should have stayed put in the new Bigger East.
WE could have played Manchester United in football.

National conferences for college football (while fugly as hell and not common) are nothing new:

Pioneer Football League: Butler, Dayton, Drake, Evansville, Valparaiso, San Diego, Austin Peay, Davidson, Jacksonville, Morehead State, Campbell, Marist, Mercer, Stetson

That would be funny. I just attended the SDSU/TCU game the other night. Got a Marshall Faulk hat, as he was being honored that night. Anyway, the Aztecs had a QB that would actually make our pass D look good. He basically handed the game to a TCU squad that I was very underwhelmed by.

That league exists so non-scholarship teams can play each other rather than get beat on by scholarship schools.

People need to get over geography as a limiting element to conference formation. We're in an era of chartered jet transport. So what if a flight is 4 hours instead of 90 minutes? The main determinant is putting together attractive media markets/TV sets/eyeballs. So go for the best markets, create divisions or pods to have some regionalism under a bigger banner. Maybe the Big East is on to something.

Those flights cost a lot of money for each school. Hope Boise would be Fball only, but you could imagine how much it would cost schools to fly out there for softball, baseball, etc.?
