ridiculous.

Calm the ' down people.

Here's a little history lesson. Babers is right on track with these turnaround jobs.

For Shafer's three years the offense averaged 107th in total offense, 53rd in total defense, and in 2015 119th and 99th respectively.

This wasn't as big a rebuild as the four prior examples, and that has been evidenced by the pre November .500 record and VT and Clemson wins. But it's still a major rebuild and 180 philosophy change, and Babers has the team on the same path as Harbaugh, Briles, and Marrone. I'm not expecting Devito to be Luck or RGIII, but I think he's going to be better than Nassib and Dungey right out of the box next year and the offense is going to be well stocked at the skill positions.

There three guys on the defensive two deep that are done this year.

This team fixes any one of three things and they be fine the rest of the year, pass offense, defensive busts, or 4th quarter stops.

we have not gotten guys open this year to get chunk yds.. a couple well thrown deep sideline passes is about it.. but if you watch plays there are guys open for chunk plays but we miss them or dont throw them. really wish there was the all 22 view replay some place just to see what is happening because when you see play design that opens up the field i dont understand why the ball isnt going there.

less bounces more completions to open guys.. Harris may well lead the team in receiving by year end and by some accts he was the 2nd-3rd best FR we recruited
and with the transfer and queelyhendrix and the 2 FR next yr the WR core will be reall solid next yr on top of riley/johnson coming back.

fight through this year get to the bowl game and then the offense takes off , hopefylly the D stabalizes and doesnt just keep going down hill.

You get your facts out of here! I want to be angry and don't have time for that!

Your long-term view of the situation is reassuring. But, in the near term, I think you are being a bit cavalier about the fixes that need to happen. How do you improve the run defense when there seem to be few LB personnel that could step in? Is it really so simple as coaching the LBs to take the correct angles, etc.? I'll be the first to admit I don't know. I'm asking!

Peoples expectations were outpacing actual production by a bit. Now, it’s easy to slip back into how it felt the last 10 years.

We’re not a 10 win team, but we’re not a 4 win team either. Incremental change is hard to trust - but your chart is spot on in showing just that.

The problems on D are quickly becoming overblown. We have a run D problem. The rest of the D is alright to very good. Our DE are a real problem for opposing teams passing games. Our 3rd down D is fantastic. Our corners are holding up.

I agree that we are trending the right way.

I also am tired of seeing our fans deflate, so I view things from that perspective. Clemson was tough because we did well. Pitt was worse because we played poorly. It looks like the stars were aligning to build a ton of fan momentum, and we lost a bunch of that.

It's not fair that Babers is fighting history. But he is.

I don't think the reaction is that ridiculous. Everyone is coming back to earth after hoping for something more special.
yeah that was my take too. Probably because of the irrational exuberance of peoples expectations and pre game predictions. But yeah, good analysis by GO for long term but always gotta account for the hiccups along the way. Stats are great for that vision but not every game as evidenced by this last game were nuance and the psychology of sport need be entered into the equation.

For the record now with the early prediction, we crush UNC in two weeks.

Saturday was a bad loss, a fluke loss, just like at Minnesota in '96. Almost mirror. Multiple Ints, one in the endzone, kicker hitting bomb FG's, defensive scores. SU plays a B game and it's a 17pt win.

They all (staff included) need to learn how to deal with adversity and pressure late and win. Last two weeks multiple opportunities to close out the game, by making one play on either side of the ball, in the 4th and didn't get it done. I'd much rather be the team that has to learn how to close from ahead than be the team that has to draw an inside straight to win all the time.

Very rare for this team to be the hunted. Hopefully they grow from this.

To some “earth” is 6 or 7 wins. For others it’s the bottom falling out. Need those folks to breathe a little

We do it to ourseveles, though. We start out with fairly rational expectations, start looking good and then go from 0-100 and wonder why we’re upset when those expectations aren’t met.

I’m guilty as charged, though. I get so caught up when we succeed and just run with it.

it is fun to have hope - was nice to get off to a good start

My caution is this - the two big plays Pitt made for scores don't feel like a fluke. We have a weakness giving up not just chunk plays, but length of field plays. That feels like something that can and will continue popping up. That is going to be difficult to overcome. UNC and Louisville for example look like they're pretty dysfunctional, but a 60+ yard TD can add a lot of function and belief back pretty quickly.

Pitt benefitted from some fluke plays, but this team was still up 10 in the 4th, and got outplayed for the final 10 minutes and OT. They had a great opportunity to close out the game and didn't do it.

We're disappointed, but this can still be a very good season. Beat NC State to get to 6-2 and we'll all feel great again.

Yeah, WMU had a ton of big plays, and even Wagner and UConn had chunk plays. It was encouraging that Clemson didn't have any 40+ yard plays, and that kept us in the game, which makes the Pitt performance even more disappointing.

Yup, Pitt was in line for a woodshed beatdown.

Then they went 70 yards for a TD and believed they were right back in it, then they had the scoop and score and were right back in it.

I thought defense doesn't matter. If the offense had played they way they should have against Pitt, it's a 45-24 game.

We were never up more than 7 in the 4th.
