I give it 3 days until I convince myself 9 wins is still entirely possible, if not likely.
We could get to 8 or 9 wins, and you'd still predict six.
Your take is equally as irrational as what you're complaining about.
That's right I would. Anything more than 6 would be exceeding my preseason expectation. I don't adjust my season expectations just because. 4-2 is what I also expected to this point. All we did was flip flop FSU/Pitt. So why would I change my expectation beyond 6-6 ?
The warts I thought we had going into the season - LBs, WRs, Running game, are still big warts - regardless of what UNC, LVille and Wake are doing. Because those 3 schools are really why everyone was going all pie in the sky. Those 3 could beat us then and can beat us later. (people don't watch other teams, they just look at scores.)
I don't disagree. Even at the pro level you still get good teams having bad days and bad teams put it together once in a while and play out of their gourd.
But what I'm talking about is in the course of one game, even a single series, we see two completely different teams. The first 4 minutes of this game it looked like we were going to curb stomp them. Passes were crisp out of the pocket, run game was tight, defense was smothering everything. Then, like a switch flipped they lose leverage and Cisco takes a bad angle and it's like a completely different team on both sides of the ball. Tentative, missing assignments, backing down to aggression. Saw the same thing in the 3rd against WMU and in the 4th against Clemson.
I mean, looking at the fanbase, the wild emotional swings between manic frenzy and abject despondency, I see the reflection. It's kind of like dealing with young kids, the most terrifying thing is the realization of confronting yourself. Of reconciling with your own demons.
We'll see. You aren't the only one who watches a lot of college football.
We're going to handle those two teams at home, and have an outstanding chance against Wake on the road.
Since FSU is way down for their standards, maybe beating NC St. will be the unexpected dome win of the season. Also upgrading SU's chances at Wake. The Deacons have not beaten a P5 team this year.
We could get to 8 or 9 wins, and you'd still predict six.
