What happened to Triche? Boeheim gives him the longest rope in America and when he gets rolling he sits for 10 min? Weird.

That was weird he was on fire!

We played like crap, were in foul trouble for the first time all season, played without a key reserve, won a road game and are 16-0 and still #1 in the country. We will rebound and play a better game Saturday.

Oh yea and we covered.
Difference tonight from say DePaul is that Prov. made a concerted effort to sprint down the floor off any miss/turnover. They made sure to beat the zone down the court, setting up unsettled opportunities. SU is going to have to learn to sprint back on defense because team's are going to keep doing this.

They also attacked the zone really well with picks, and making sure to constantly get into the middle and to take it right at our center, bodying into whoever was in there. Good job by the Friars with a good game plan.

Providence is a offensive team. Curious if we practiced more offense and worked on outgunning them in practice.

Oh and the refs game them ALOT of help. Probably atleast a 7 bad call differential in their favor. From there guards pushing off to charges not being called to chippy fouls on Xmas. And I didn't even catch the ones on our layups.
I suspect JB just decided to try some random plays out there tonight to keep from embarrassing. you know, to switch it up.

No clue. All of a sudden he went with Scoop. Maybe he was hurt, not sure.

I suspect a much different game when we play them in the Dome.
Providence is the type of team I dont like to see much of come tourney time. 5 guys getting major minutes, consistent, etc. ugh...
that said, we probably win 20+ in the Dome. the officiating was really uneven.

oddly it wasnt that bad a choice. scoop had a freakin double double.

I don't think we played like crap. We were pretty efficient on the offensive end. Defense was a little suspect tonight, but I kind of expect that seeing how this was our second road game within 4 days. Still getting our "travel legs".

I give credit to Prov - they played well, but we were just too deep and talented for them.

We did play well. Prov got on a run and we stepped on the gas. Toyed with them so to speak. Providence looked like they actually studied and executed "How to beat the Zone". Some of the steals and blocks at home, now were fouls in this road game. Melo was great (well kinda lucky) playing with 4 fouls. I bet Providence thinks he got 7 fouls.

Yea all of a sudden he had like 9 assists when I looked at the boxscore.

Thought MCW gave some good minutes as well. Rak...yeesh. Needs work. What is disappointing is its on the defensive end as well and not just offensively.

At one stage in the second half the officiating was up +15 for Providence. But it got under 10 at the end when they stopped calling fouls on Fab after his fourth.

Gut feeling on Rak is he makes HUGE leap next year. He has skill. Just needs to learn the game/beef up.

Make no mistake, we just took Providence's best shot and it isn't easy to do that and win(let alone by 14) on the road in conference. Providence shot better than they have, they executed very well, their game plan was very good, they got breaks from the refs in my opinion. I mean, we played this game without a center for a long time. I'm impressed that we won by 14.

+1
We gave to many foul line jumpers in the first half and the fast break turned into turnovers for us in the first half. The defensive sliding looked slow at times as well.

Outside of that we played tough tonight and without the fast break points.

I have no doubt. If he works hard and puts on some bulk he will make a huge difference next year. Hell if Fab can...

The thing i love is our bigs can put the ball on the glass and score. we have really struggled with our bigs touch for a long time...Melo/Rak have nice soft touch.

Best sequence of the game though was Waiters ridiculous bank shot followed by the 3. Changed the game.

I was really glad to see them go to Fab to start the second half. I wish they would use him more.

Those 2 plays were huge that Dion made. Huge. That and the charge that CJ took. Put the game away.

We did shoot it well. Thank god for that. Just wasnt a typical game. Had to duct tape it together but a win is a win and I am pleased to see that.
Had to laugh at the box score. (With rounding) It was a 60-60-60 game. 60% from the field, 60% from Three and 60% from the line. (Actually 61.1 , 58.8 and 68.8). There were not a lot of misses

I really like the way we started the 2nd half, making a concerted effort to go to Fab down low and drive to the hoop. Even though we were hot from 3, you have to mix up the offense, and we did this nicely.

We played without one of our best defenders and won so if Keita is healthy on sat we will have our defensive intensity back. Unlike some teams we are able to miss one of our best players and win. We won't get any credit from the media because most of them don't have any idea about how important defense is.

Call me Crazy but I liked what I saw from Rak.. lots of work.. absolutely yes.. and he needs to add some more bulk.. however.. this was a great game for him to get some action. He struggled but also showed off his athleticism and rebounding prowess. Pulled down 6 or 7 boards and had a nice putback and nearly a bigtime one handed rebound flush. Would love to see him use the extra minutes against a BE opponent as a launching pad to become more of a contributor. He needs to take his time reacting on D and keep his hands up straight. Melo .. although still learning is a great learning tool for Rak to watch how he moves his feet and times his blocks.
