What I'll say is that people should be very excited about ADBB. I've mentioned it before, but he was on top of things from the day he was brought on. And to be honest, something that I was wrong initially about was that the search was going to be a collaborative decision. Blair was fully in control of this, and he wasn't going to hire Gerry without first trying to pull a huge fish. He really pushed all his chips in last week.

But I do not think that Schertz ever really wanted to be the coach at Syracuse. Nevertheless, it wasn't because there wasn't a compelling offer on the table.

Any insight into Hodgson? Same as you said last week? We were very close with him but couldn’t come to an agreement? And JB tried to sandbag him and he got spooked?

I find some solace knowing we may have helped SLU overpay for a coach. I don’t even have a reason to dislike them, just glad we played the game.

At the end of the day, it was great that BB had an offer considered by Schertz, but it looks like he was just using it as leverage for a sweetener for SLU. Fair play to him. He got his sweetener.

Hodgson was already scared off prior with Boeheim pulling the strings behind the scenes...

No outside coach worth their salt was coming here (Schertz included) with Boeheim working against them from get-go... Nor should they.

If ture, there was no effective "national search". It would be a smokescreen. It was always only GMAC methinks. We had no other real options. They were all effectively scuttled.

And let's be honest, with Boeheim involved holding back NIL with donors on any outside hire, I think most outside coaches worth their salt would be like "No, I'm good. I don't want to be on Jim Boeheim's hate list from day 1."

That said, I think the interest in hiring was real... you don't up the bag and go back to him with a second offer, have a sit down interview last weds, etc. unless you (the school) are serious... Whether Schertz was truly interested and not just using us for leveraging SLU for a sweetener, certainly debatable.

There are other boards, social media platforms, etc. out there with folks that have "sources" just as folks claim to here. As always, folks are voluntarily free to believe as they see fit.

And this guy is not one of those folks. It's not like he is saying "I heard from one of my sources that Boeheim was telling major donors to withhold NIL money if we hired from the outside." Even then I would be suspicious, but he is just saying things. It's a big claim and it is not something our insider types are saying here.
