Acting like JB specifically is the reason we have GMac still seems like a huge oversimplification, as much as I hate the guys actions in recent years. If his opinion on GMac was actually in the minority of other trustees/key su staff, the new and old AD, the major bball NIL donors, etc. then I don’t think his opinion alone would carry enough weight to sway things or turn away other coaches. I suspect the issue (or non issue if you support the GMac hire) is that a lot of those other people legitimately also liked GMac as head coach, whether that is for financial reasons, liking what they saw at Siena/the Duke game, or even just nostalgia.
I just don’t think it is as simple as Hodgson/Schertz were about to sign on the dotted line and everyone was on board except JB. Yes I wish the old man carried 0.0% sway at this point but I also don’t think he pulls all the strings at this stage.
