will be interesting to see where this dope ends up after he gets fired - which college will hire him and how quickly he can bully the AD into downgrading their schedule difficulty so he can have his "success" again

Apparently he's on the short list for the Texas job...

I don't understand how he's built up enough equity to get another good job? I'll take the orange colored glasses off for a second and say that he took Rutgers from horrible to mediocre - but honestly? I don't see how Texas can afford to take chance on him...

Put me on the list that says when Texas fully vets him, there is no chance he gets the job.

When he took the Rutgers job, it was a 1AA program essentially. His job was to get talent walking through those doors, any talent. And he succeeded at that. Turned them from dogsh!t to a program that could compete on the field with most teams because the personnel was much closer to equal, if not better, than the local peers. But as far as gameday coaching, that's where he's going to fall apart in their evaluation.

Texas' problem isn't about talent. Maybe they're talent evaluation/selection processes are flawed. But it's still a school that can typically go out and get who they want. They need someone who can make sure they get the right kind of kids, and turn them into the dominant football program that they recently were, and should be.

Schiano isn't the guy for this project.

Exactly. If I were Texas - I'd look at poaching Baylor's coach.

you don't spend a billion dollars in recruiting to hire some gap toothed baby gorilla in hopes that they can ride punt blocks to the national championship

They'll look at him. They'll look at A&M's too. They're not going to let them steal headlines forever.

Dunno if he has connections, but I wonder if USC gives him a shot out west once they fire Kiffin.

I read that they might be worried about his age (57). Want to get a younger candidate.

Greg looking like his jig might be up. Didn't someone say the other day that UCONN might be looking for a coach. Maybe an even up swap P for GS?

Now is this any way to talk about .A.M.I.L.Y? "The ax has come down on Josh Freeman. Unless Greg Schiano gets a quick personality transplant, his head is next to go in Tampa Bay."
I could see UConn going after him hard. I don't think they have enough money for him and I don't think Schiano will see that job as his best option.

He has screwed up his career incredibly badly in a very short period of time.

this Tampa Bay job was a big payday for him. he probably thought, as many others did (including me), that no legitimate big 5 conference was going to come and rescue buttgers from the ACK fate they seem so perfectly suited for - and figured his smoke and mirrors show would only keep him as a hot name for a very short time period. He can still pocket this NFL windfall and some dopey AD will still give him a $1M+/year gig in college as soon as he gets fired.

He got paid though. 5 years $15mm. He will get fired and get paid out for 2-3 years of work.

I was thinking the same thing. The UConn position would play into his coaching strengths and would allow him to tap into his recruiting contacts in NJ. And like the situation when he arrived at Rutgers, the Huskies have nowhere to go but up. Another big Plus is that Sikorsky is based in Stratford, CT.
On the down side, the Huskies are stuck in a putrid league.

We hashed this out a week ago. Here's what happens - Strong takes an SEC gig this year and he gets Louisville. There's no chance in the world that Texas or USC hire him while they're teetering. Louisville gives him the state school, copter-type stuff to leverage for recruiting. Also keeps him in the general area of where he can recruit well (northeast) while also letting him keep continuity with LVille's Florida inroads.

I don't think he'll be that good there, but it's a fit.
