Scoreboard watching in a split conference.

You beat me to it Alsacs.
I should add I have heard from a source one of the proposed settlements by the ACC is that ND agree to make the FSU, Clemson, Georgia Tech games part of their Shamrock series and have them as ND home game controlled neutral site games with Clemson-in Charlotte, Florida State in Jacksonville/Orlando, and Georgia Tech-in Altanta and have ND compensate those 3 teams with a payout close to what they would generate in a home game and mitigate the damage. This is what the ACC wants and ND is strongly considering it as this scenario would only occur once each 6 years for those 3 schools and NBC/ND would be get their Shamrock game in the Southeast and get recruits.

Why isn't ND considered that BCS team along with USCe. I get that two times in 6 years with ND that is 11 games with USC but I think the ACC and ESPN will compensate GT, FSU, and Clemson to get 9 games. The GT fanbase is okay with 9 games its just FSU and Clemson and I get you two are the Big Dogs and make the money off the home games, but I think eventually you will get something and it will happen.
ND will be that BCS team twice every 6 years but we will still schedule home and aways with two other teams for the 4 years between.

I don't know what the future plan is. 9 games is fine with me but it also means that we won't be able to play teams like UGA, Auburn, Ole Miss, etc. I know this type of thing is what Clemson wants to do.

Yeah I don't see UGA playing you guys anymore during the regular season just because of the 9 game SEC schedule even though its a great underrated rivalry. You guys may play them in the Georgia Dome in a neutral site game but I don't see them playing 9 SEC, Ga Tech and another h/h.

Clemson, FSU, GT play 8 conference games, plus their SEC rival that is 9 games if you up that to 10 with a 9th conference game then they no flexibility for getting 7 home games a season for more $$$. Having to play @ND every 6 years means once every 6 years they only get 6 home games and lose money from the lost home game. ESPN and the ACC will have to do something to mitigate this damage but I think it will be done as everything in the world has a price.

That makes sense. I've been used to SU's past year or two when we only have 6 home games so I forgot about this type of scheduling. The funny thing is that if all the schools did this 6H/6A and played 9 conference and 2 big5 games we'd have a better idea on who should be in a playoff if they continue the beauty pageant theme they have now.

I agree with this. VT's LB's and secondary had the speed to play with GT. The key is to play disciplined and not to over pursue. My biggest fear is that our over agressiveness and reliance on the blitz could kill us against a team like this.

I'd guess that they wouldn't blitz as much in that game or at the very least try to time it better.

It would be like the ACC restricting basketball home games on us and because we have the Dome and draw big crowds even for cupcake games SU would be losing money. Most non-SU schools have to have 7 home games a year to make budget, but we are struggling to get 6 home games each year its a tough problem. Most of our problems were because the Big East sucked every 2 years we only had 3 conference home games and had to schedule 5 non-conference games with 4/4 h/a each year we should be fine now.

Yea I was going to say that it was probably all moot since most of the major conferences are moving to 9 games schedules.

Unless we have 2 Big5 H/H thus meaning 1 home game...a meadowlands and then an AA. That's 6 home games again Alsacs. I'd like to blame the Big East but I see one season with 6 and then the next with 7 home games as best case scenarios. Heck, they'll be doing H/H with schools like Toledo or Miami (O) as well.

The Big East schedule was one of the biggest reasons we struggled to get 6 home games a year. Now with 4/4 it will be a lot easier. The I-AA will be the 5th home game and then 1 of the last 3 being a home game and you get your 6th home game. Under the Big East schedule every 2 years we had to schedule 3 of 5 non-conference games at home which was tough. The Big East messed all the football schools by not adding a 9th team earlier than they tried to do so. The Meadowlands games are okay as long as they are neutral site games even though I hate them I believe they are okay to get us on National TV. I LOATHE neutral/away agreements.

That is an interesting proposal if true.

The ACC is never going to put FSU, Miami, Clemson all in the same division. Never. From a big picture perspective (certain recent history notwithstanding), these are the 3 most attractive football programs in the entire conference. Plus, only the teams in the south are guaranteed to get trips to Florida, while the north is shut out, except when they get their 1 non-crossover game against the other league.

Not to mention that UVA and VT will scream to whoever will listen about not wanting to be in the north division and having Wake Forest as their only division mate in the bordering state of North Carolina.

I don't know the bylaws for division re-org, and if it's a vote, and how many votes are needed. But I think there will be enough opposed to make this a non starter.

Now, get ND to join full time, put them in the north, at least you give people something to think about. And then please don't balance them out with UConn. It would be the broccoli next to the Filet Mignon. At least find some mashed potatoes, somewhere, anywhere.
Exactly.

Teams in the North want guaranteed games in Fla and/ or Georgia every year for recruiting purposes. That's why you see Miami (along with the fact that many of their students are from the Northeast) listed in the North in many North/South scenarios.

I agree with you on that since we had 5 non conference games and the odd amount of games within the conference. I just think that the landscape has changed regarding scheduling because of the beauty pageant plus bowl eligibility/$ with bigger bowls it's going to be even harder to get those games in the Dome.

And this is just another reason why 1 division makes sense. You stay at 14/15 no need to add if ND joins and the "southern" schools can pretty much keep their relationships...no more divisional bickering.

All the talk about 9 conference games leads me to believe that there will be a move very soon to expand the schedule to 13 regular season games. Too many teams in too many conferences need that 7-home game schedule to pay for everything.

I thought about that too. But as recently as 2005, there was an 11 game season. Now we'd be up to 13 so soon. Plus a conference championship game. Plus a semi final game. Plus a championship game. So two teams would now play 16 games. Just can't see them doing it.

Plus it makes them look stupid, because all those years they want on and on about how college football couldn't have a playoff. Too many games for the student athlete! Now the winner and runner up would be playing an NFL regular season schedule.

Not that anyone in the NCAA organization seems to care how stupid they look anymore.

The NCAA reminds me of a guy that everyone thinks is a fool but yet they are rich beyond belief and just laughs among themselves at who really is the fool.

The rivalries could be protected in the two extra divisional games.

Other than people getting freaked out by geography or division naming conventions, in a sport where many of those in charge abandoned geography awhile ago, what's wrong with the existing divisions?

It's certainly better than this divisional alternative

Big East
Cincinnati
Connecticut
Louisville
Pittsburgh
Rutgers
South Florida
Syracuse
Temple

If one is willing to openly compromise their supposed beliefs in order to profit, then one simply does not care what others think.

That's how I think of the NCAA. It just gets hard to watch these guys act as if they are an organization representing higher learning, and focusing on the best interest of the student athlete.

I'll never understand why the conference commissioners don't put the full court press on the NCAA to abolish the arbitrary and asinine rule that requires a 12+ team conference be split into two, 6+ team divisions in order to hold a conference championship game.

How much easier would life be if the ACC could just line up 1 to 14, maybe have a protected rivalry game or 2 for each program, and rotate the schedule around every year? Take the top 2 teams at the end of the year and pair them up for the championship.

With 2 protected games and an 8 game schedule the least you'd see a program is once every two years. As we have it now we will see almost half of our conference once every SIX years.

It's horrendous.

Oh Lord
