I understand that they didn't want the Patriots to have any time left to run plays, but they call a quick slant from the goal line? They were planning on using the 3rd or 4th down, so they say. What is the best way to run the clock?? RUN THE BALL.

The potential outcomes of that brilliant play call are the following:
  • Incomplete pass, maybe wastes 3 seconds - FAIL, on to 3rd down
  • Complete pass is a touchdown and wastes maybe 3 seconds - WIN, but doesn't run the clock
  • Interception and wasting seconds don't matter - FAIL
  • Complete pass via screen that loses yards and wastes seconds - I guess WIN errr something
Absolutely, positively the worst play call of all time.

I loathe all things Boston sports, and that was a complete slap in the face. Seeing the little pansy Tom Brady on the sidelines pouting was awesome... until Bevell/Carroll shock the world and throw a slant when they have inarguably the best power RB in the game.

That improbable catch down the sidelines should've been the 3rd curse catch against the Pats, yet now goes down as the greatest meaningless catch in SB history.

Baffling. Cheaters gon' cheat... and win. Puke.

I thought lost in all this was BB not calling a TO with about a minute left. Just let the clock run down and took his chances which obviously came up aces thanks to ly Pete and his decision to throw a 1 yard slant pass on the goal line. If I were a Seattle fan I would literally have lost my mind. I mean complete schitzo.

Boston Sports teams <

Sorry if anyone is a fan of a Boston sports team, but ugh yeah...just my opinion.

I couldn't find myself rooting for NE, even with Chan on the team. (Very happy for C.Jones though)

Wasn't lost on me. I kept thinking last night, in what other sport could the two head coaches, in the final minute, of a championship game, be so dumb? It was as if they were trying to out-dumb each other, and Carroll won.

Football...

I know that I've always felt that the best way to run the clock out is to take a short drop and throw a quick slant pass that could easily fall incomplete, burning at best 3-4 seconds. I mean, that's a lot of seconds, you guys.

Brady did what he does best at the end of Super Bowls... take a seat on the bench, pout, and let his defense with the game for him.

It was unreal. All of it. Cannot imagine being a bettor, the financial swing last night in the 4th quarter was enormous.

And collect the MVP, how the hell was he the MVP?

I know he threw two picks, but I was happy with his performance. He got the two scores the team needed in the 4th. He can't play both sides of the ball...FD, I'm from Boston, obviously a Patriots fan.

he wasnt the MVP. there wasnt one honestly. Lynch should have still gotten it. He was unstoppable. Pats were bouncing off him like they were 80 pound kids.

24 carries for 102 yards for the losing team is not MVP worthy. What he did was a have a good game statistically, where his avg yard per carry was .6 below his season average. If this is better than 4 touchdowns and a win, even with two picks, i don't know what to say. If you are looking for another player for MVP it is clearly Julian edlman.

Football coaches get too cute sometimes. NE stacked their goal line with Wilfork over the LG which is where Seattle love to run. If that's where you were going and don't want to run that play, I get it. Roll your QB, who the D couldn't touch all day, outside the tackle box with run/pass option. If it's not there chuck it out of the endzone and line up from the 1 again with your preferred personelle.

Glad you enjoyed the game!

Edelman or Butler should have been the MVP, or even Co-MVPs. Edelman's 3rd down catch when he got rocked by Chancellor and held on, enabled the comeback. Butler's smart play to trip the Seattle WR on the 1st down after the Pats closed to 3 (that play-action call was great) and his INT were the two biggest defensive plays.

I think the WR was the team MVP. he kept every drive going and played hurt as well.

You missed bobble the snap and then butt fumble.

Saw a stat today that I thought was interesting, and somehow didn't change my mind at all about how amazingly stupid it was:

On passes from the 1 yard line this year there were 66 touchdowns...and ZERO turnovers...until last night.

Still, dumbest call in history. Seems like way too much could go wrong in that situation, and you have M. Lynch. Tipped pass, so many players bunched together...hated the slant.

Reality is that there are a lot of stats that support the play call, but it just seems so illogical.

I know - like the Pats have one of the worst short yardage defenses in the NFL, and the Seahawks are the best short yardage team (Offensively) in the NFL.

You're in the SB - take the touchdown.

I wonder how many of those 66 were play-action throws out of heavy formations? I think NE was so keyed on Lynch that any kind of play fake and Seattle scores something easy.

Exactly... with a ridiculously mobile QB like Wilson, playaction probably gives him enough space to run it in himself. If not, someone would likely be open in the endzone for a TD. Either way, the outcome could've been ideal. Nope, quick slant.
